I took delivery (delivered by dealer contract driver) of a 2024 XLT (Center Console Shift/5.0 Blackout) on 18 March 2025 with 130 miles. At 137.7 miles and in a carwash line the truck would not move, it was in (D) and would not shift out of drive ((D)) indicator light rapidly blinking). I shut it down and could not shift into (N) or any other gear and of course would not restart in (D). Just before that I got a Service Soon message and a little yellow wrench. My only option was to call wrecker to tow it to a near by Ford dealership (not where I purchased from). Technician did a manual override to get the truck into (N) and off the wrecker. During my initial inspection of the truck I noticed the stowable console shift would not fold down, made a noticeable clicking sound. Figured I was doing something wrong and would look at YouTube...Needless to say I'm working with FORD and Dealership (ha). Has anyone experienced something similar. So disappointing.

Looking at 2/3 weeks before the truck is even pulled into a service bay to troubleshoot it (I'd owned it for 4 hours and I drove it less than 7 miles). I own a bulletproof 1995 F-150 5.0 with 70k miles....Man this is leaving a bad taste in my mouth with FORD and the selling dealership Sandy Sansing Daphne (AL) Ford for their absolute zero unconcern or offer of any assistance what so ever.

Can you cancel the contract? If dealer is not showing any interest in helping their customers after spending money on a new vehicle, give the truck back and take your money elsewhere.

I just passed a 100K and the shifter getting stuck is the only trip to the dealer the truck has ever had. Doesn’t make your situation suck any less, but the shifter isn’t necessarily a harbinger of doom

I agree....I'm assuming it's a shift solenoid or solenoid in the braking system. Just so aggravating to have an issue right out of the gate on a new truck after driving less then 7 miles.

It’s the sensor in the shifter to tell it what gear it’s in that is probably the culprit.

Working with Ford Customer Service....Wish it was that simple. Once you purchase its yours, I'm finding out. I gave them three options. Find a new truck, unwind the deal or tow the truck to their dealership (100 miles away) and fix it. Guy said the dealership I'm at is a good dealership. My complaint is they are swamped with at lease 100 vehicles ... so it will sit for 3+ weeks before it's moved into a maintenance bay. I didn't purchase from them so they are not really motivated to move vehicles around to prioritize me.

That's what I assume...Since the shifter will not fold down I think there's a issue with the shifter.

Sucks to hear but I bet they'll take care of it quickly and you'll be good to go. I've not seen much on these forums regarding shift lever issues. I've seen some, like yours, but nothing I would consider widespread.

But it doesn't make it suck any less when you buy a brand new car and something like this happens immediately.

Maybe relevant: Couple years ago was on highway and I'm nearly certain a woman rear-ended a vehicle in stop and go traffic in an absolutely fresh-off-the-lot BMW. The entire car was spotless, paint glistening, paper tag stuck on the back. Exactly how you'd expect a brand-new, fully detailed BMW would look. Except for the accordion front end. I often think about that poor woman. Brand new beautiful car and you're probably driving it home from the dealer and almost certainly totaled.

Strangely enough... Check out TSB 25-2045. Looks like it released in February 2025.

The repair times are very short (assuming this applies to your truck). Looks like maybe 2-3 hours max for the repair.

Clicking sound coming from shifter after it is placed and kept in reverse, neutral or drive position (2024 only)

• Shifter will not shift out of park/into P

• Shifter will not shift out of gear

• Shifter will not stow/unstow

• Shifter will move past the P position

• Loose shifter lever arm at pivot

• Illuminated powertrain malfunction (wrench) indicator

• DTCs P0929:77, P0929:00, P0929:07 and/or P0929:9A

Sounds a lot like what I experienced....I was stuck in (D) with the D

Might be your battery that's low or on it's way out. Check this thread out with similar issues.
