I've thought about getting a portable one a couple of times over the years, with all of the tech we have in our vehicles now it seems to be a relic of the past.

And the mag base antenna won't stick to our aluminum trucks. ?

Yepper.

The old 'stealth' (all controls in the 'mic') Cobra 75WXST is still in my 2005 F150, but I removed the toolbox-mounted antenna long ago and the 'mic' is buried in the bottom of the console instead of handy on the clip by my right leg.

Used to talk on handheld radio I had when I was a kid that had 6 ft antenna.
Had CB in my Ranger until 2011 but never added one to my F-150.

Have you ever actually listened to a CB? There is no etiquette whatsoever. It's the wild west and basically unusable as a viable means of communication.

Ham radio is the way to go. Get your license and enjoy the good order and discipline of it. And it'll work when all the cell towers are overwhelmed after an emergency event. I was working in DC during the earthquake in 2011. When 5 million people all tried to call family and friends at the same time, it rendered the cell network useless for the rest of that afternoon and early evening.

I have one from 1975 that still works. Browning SST with a mag mount. Still remember my old Canadian license number - XM32-9376...LOL

I still see antennas on semi mirrors, so maybe they still use them.

I have a 100 watt Icom HF, VHF, and UHF Amateur radio installed in my truck with an antenna mount that goes into the trailer receiver. The control head is mounted in the front of the cab and the radio itself is mounted befind the rear seat. I would like to figure out a way or a spot for a CB as well but haven't given it much thought recently. They do come in handy in bad weather to know why you're sitting 200 cars back stopped on the highway.

@powerboatr Ok, So what's the CB going for at the garage sale this weekend. Is there a discount for gen14 forum members? ?
