I ordered a 2024 Lariat 502A black appearance package, tow haul, FX4, and 7.2 KW generator which has a production date scheduled for the week of 9/16. Although I was told it would be a $1000 deposit I gave them the info but they never charged me.

Yesterday I bought a 2024 702A which because it had the color I wanted (antimatter blue), Powerboost, FX4, and 7.2 KW generator and only came out to $2600 more than my build would have been for a bunch of upgrades and not having to wait.

Should I expect any issues telling them to cancel my order?

I canceled my order back in 22 because the truck was delayed and I found a similar truck on a local dealer lot. The original dealer I ordered with, canceled my order and refunded me my $1000 deposit. In the end the dealer never canceled the order and took my original truck into inventory about 5 months later when it finally shipped. They sold it within a week. I think we all were happy with the results. I just thought it was funny Ford was sending me updates on my order truck. All I could think at the time, what a cluster f*&%!

Since the ordering dealer never charged your card, I would just cancel. You shouldn't have an issue. Just be aware the dealer may not cancel the order with Ford. But you will not be on the hook for the truck when it comes in.

I've canceled 2 ordered due to the parts restrictions in 2023. No one cares, the dealer still gets a truck that will sell. Just tell them you are backing out, there is no downside.

I agree. I cancelled an order in 2022 and the dealer just kept the order in the system and was glad to sell the truck when it arrived.

A misbuilt truck Is a valid reason for cancellation. Dealers can and have been stubborn, where no valid reason exists, other than the customer just doesn’t feel like it, assuming the truck specifications are as requested originally. Most dealers are sympathetic for reason such as change in financial situation, loss of job, etc. Other factors such as supply and demand, enable the dealer to happily accept a cancellation, knowing full well that the vehicle is readily marketable. Where problems arise, are oddball orders 4X2 and strange option mixes. In areas that experience snow, A 4X2 would be a hard sell. Having a vehicle with no air conditioning in times where it was optional would also be a problem. Anyway, you got my point.

I think with those scenarios the dealers would try to fight for a deposit you placed, because luckily they can't force you to come in and sign paperwork, go through a credit app, and drive the truck home! I will say, never put a deposit down to order an F150.
