I did the 90 minute drive yesterday. Did immediate install. It failed at 6pm. It auto scheduled at 1AM it failed again. Just manually scheduled it 15 minutes ago. It is now updating.

Could be it took the overnight 8 hours after the 1AM failure to learn the latest SoC after the 90 minute drive yesterday.

This whole process is voodoo.
I can only imagine what the owners who aren't on the forums go through when this happens to them.

Especially without your critical insight and help.

I am a computer scientist. Einstein always said doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is a sign of insanity. I maintain Einstein never worked on computers.

Anyone please clarify. Getting OTA updates has nothing at all to do with having your truck attached to your home Wi-Fi. OTA updates come over the AT&T cellular network though the truck's onboard modem. If you're in an area with a spotty cell signal you may or may not get an OTA update. Is this correct?

EDIT: Perplexity says updates come over Wi-Fi too.

If you log into PTS, you can see whether an update is flagged for being available over the Wifi interface.
I think Rugedraw has stated that there have been 3 updates tagged as such, and what they had in common is that they were updates that were addressing issues with receiving cellular updates. (makes sense)

Example: an update that corrected the configuration of the Telematics Module. AKA modem module.

Still, there are those that swear they are receiving the payload (files) over the Wifi interface of the truck, regardless of conflicting information.

It's a license you purchase to access the Motorcraft cloud for multiple features regarding your vehicles (by VIN)

When I started my update for bluecruise 1.4 manually Sync connected to my home wifi but I saw no traffic on the network during the update. I can only assume it completed the update over the cellular network.

By then, the files were already downloaded and ready to install.

 I'll never understand this whole OTA process. haha
Click the OTA process breakdown link in my signature. Bit of a long read, but it explains what happens when OTA's get sent to the best of our collective knowledge.
