I’m considering backing out my F150 bed bolts and installing longer bolts to install cabinets for my camper. I’ve heard that the original bolts are specialized and once they are removed they should be replaced with new bolts. But if I install longer bolts these won’t be the same type of specialized bolts (which are too short for my purposes). I’m thinking of torquing my longer bolts similar to the original bolt specs and then checking them regularly with the torque wrench to make sure they are staying tight. Since I’ll be installing the longer bolts through one-by wood, I’d also use hefty washers like used on sill plates for house construction to make sure the bolts are solidly installed. Reasonable plan or not? What do people think?
