After being stranded for the 4th time in my 21 Platinum Powerboost usually due to random computer glitches, it is time to move on. I want to be able to use the extras I bought for the powerboost on the Raptor like my Diamondback HD tonneau, so I am sticking with Gen 3. I found a ‘21 with roughly 50k miles and a decent price. Code Orange, too. But it is at a dealer 4 hours away. What report can I try to get my Ford dealer to run on the VIN that will give me the skinny on the maintenance and repairs done on this truck before I sink money into it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Get an ESP. I've heard too many horror stories on Gen 3 repairs. My friends has been a total POS, but he has a very good warranty.

I have one on my Powerboost. That is the only reason I have kept it this long. But with no limp mode and my multiple trips into the Rocky Mountains to fly fish away from cell towers, I do not need to take that chance anymore. It has definitely paid for itself, so I will be buying one for the Raptor as well.

You want to ask for an Oasis report. This will have all the info you're looking for.
Not all dealers are willing to do it for you but some will

I thought you had to get ESP before the 3y bumper to bumper warranty is up. I had looked into this a few weeks ago since my 21 is coming up on the factory powertrain coverage. There is some grace period but a 2021 is past that now

Thank you. That was it. I called my dealer and he pulled it for me. Truck is clean other than a muffler replaced under warranty and a loose fluid line when it was delivered. Appreciate the reply. Very helpful!

My credit union had a better esp and cheaper. they’ve covered everything for me including cam phasers at 100k on the King Ranch I had before this Powerboost. Worth looking into. Not all are reputable, but the one I got had great feedback from my dealer.

you can buy an ESP past the 3 years 36k but will need additional inspection done and usually more expensive depending on current milage.

also, I went from a 2021 Powerboost ( flawless) to a 2022 Raptor (15k miles/ mid 60s) and I got the report and called the specified dealers on the report for peace of mind to get notes they had on their system. Also paid $150 for full ford inspection prior. I love my Raptor, better body style than the refresh in my opinion! I was torn between ZR2 diesel or Tundar TRD pro, but figured if I wanted the Raptor “competition” I might as well get the standard

now… MPG vs Powerboost, night and day lol around town I get 14.5 and highway under 70mph around 18.5 (exhaust on quiet, comfort steering and sport suspension seems to help ) lol

Thanks for the information. It is always good to hear from someone who made the same switch. I was considering a Tundra as well based on their dependability, but it is so hard to beat the F150 interior. And, it's a Raptor, so there's that.

As for MPG, I never for better than 16 around town in my Powerboost. I could get closer to 20 on the highway without a headwind or crosswind, but that is hard to do when my highway miles are cutting across Texas to get to Colorado for some fly fishing. But if I get within 1.5mpg of the Powerboost, I am fine with that. I just don't drive my trucks like a grandpa. I don't speed, but I don't waste much time getting up to speed either.

The 21 I am getting is Ford Gold Certified with 50k miles, so that gives me powertrain coverage to 100k, but the rest is 12month/12k. I am going to price some options to get the bumper to bumper that entire time, too. The Powerboost ESP still has about 50k left before it expires, but I cannot be stranded again like it has done to me 4 times because it doesn't like some micro electrical hiccup.

Thanks again for sharing your experience. Gives me more confidence in the swap.

yeah for me the Tundra would look good on certain days and on most days like origami on wheels (no as bad as cyber truck)… my 21 PB in the 50k miles I owned it I got 21.5mpg religiously and on hwy about 24mpg (mostly hand calculated) going about 85- xxx lol so i would say something was definitely wrong.

For your case you will love the Raptors for sure! I would advice for one with less mileage but if you can get coverage a great deal then it is what it is!

Yep. I knew something was up with it, but they just kept saying that my 11 mile commute to work was the problem and the truck was designed for longer runs to keep everything in the hybrid system charged. I put a battery monitor on it, and it was staying above 80%, which was the threshold they said it needed. In the end, there is something bigger going on with that truck and I am ready to move on. It sure was a blast to drive, though. The thing is a rocket. Jealous of the MPG you were getting, though. Dang.
