I tried searching this site for info on this and didn't find any, but has anybody rigged up an additional camera to be able to view the backseat on the truck's display? I think I read a couple of years ago that the axillary camera option could be used for this, but I haven't seen anything since. I'm about to have a kid and I think it'd be nice to be able to see her in her car seat on the screen. Right now though I have no idea what camera to buy that could be used for this, or how to hook it up but I'm sure I could figure out the installation part from threads talking about adding a trailer backup camera.

The trailer camera uses the 12 pin connection in the back, I’m not sure if you could bypass that and make it work. ~$1000 for a backseat camera would be kind of expensive, but it does work well.

Ah I didn't realize there was a port in the bumper for that, or that those cameras were so pricey!

I wonder if you could tap into that connection to get a signal with a aftermarket camera, but cheapest route would probably be a dashcam or a camera with a separate screen. Probably could find something that didn’t record for fairly cheap, if it’s just a live view baby camera.

You could hook up something like a Wolfbox 900 (mirror) dashcam and just use the rearview camera section for viewing the back seat instead of the road from the back. Then you could display the back seat when needed or turn it off to use it as a regular rearview mirror.

How about an ultra low tech solution? Newborns sit in a rear facing seat. You can buy a mirror that attaches to the headrest of the seat where the car seat is strapped in … gives you a perfect view of the kid in your rear view mirror.
granted, it’s not nearly as soul satisfying as hooking up a bunch of electronics, but it has the advantage of being 100% fool proof and requires no power and no wires.

I have been interested in getting a dashcam anyway...maybe I'll look into this some more. Thanks!

I used a Naviks audio/video interface to integrate a wireless camera mounted to the back of my boat trailer while towing. It's not cheap, but it will for sure do what you are looking to do.
