From what I have read if you have a device, USB stick, with mp3 files on it the Sync 4 does not recognize it or the files if you plug it into the data USB port. However I saw a youtube vid where the guy said that he formatted a stick in exFat format and was able to load mp3 music on it and then the Sync 4 recognized it from the Audio - Source button in the menu.

Has anyone tried to use the data port to play mp3 files this way, and what was your experience with getting outside devices to work in Sync 4.

I have a 128gb usb stick plugged into mine. It was formatted to exfat on a MacBook. Then I copied my iTunes library (or parts of it) to the USB. I have about 800 songs on it. It plays fine. You can search by artist & genre. Shuffle it, just about anything you can do with and iPhone.

IF your flashdrive has any security, recovery, or other utilities installed as some do from the manufacturer, that can cause problems (delete 'em and their folders entirely).

FWIW I had problems with MP3 playback on a SYNC3 Escape until I deleted all of the non-music / hidden files created by a MacBook (the system seemed to 'hang' when it encountered those).

For my SYNC4 Lariat I ensured all those non-music files were scrubbed before even trying it and all works great but I am now running FLAC files exclusively, I've not even tested any MP3 (all my music is ripped by me from original CDs).

200+ artists, 400+ albums, 7000+ tracks on a 256GB Samsung 3.1 USB C flashdrive formatted to ExFAT (I was surprised to find both USB C and USB A data ports available on the Lariat).

Gotta add that the one-button voice-command recognition / playback by artist, album, or song has performed flawlessly, much better than previous SYNC3 or the system in my 2019 Honda Ridgeline, I'm very happy with this system.

Outstanding! This is good to hear.

This is going to make my long drive home from Granger much more endurable. I have a number of old radio murder mysteries in mp3 format and I wanted to make sure I could listen to some on the way home to help pass the monotony. I have a Sirius XM account for the truck that I will activate before I leave Granger, but listening to baseball games will not work for early morning driving.

XM has a station (148) for old time radio shows but it can be hit or miss. I want the murder mysteries, they are a crack up.

Thanks for the replies BMW and Buyer!

Lol, perhaps you saw my mention in some other thread saying I forgot to pack my music flashdrive for my trip to Granger, that was the ONLY minor downside of my entire Granger experience, totally self-inflicted of course.

Plugged it in when I got home and really kicked myself upon quickly learning how great the voice-command works for playing my preferred tunes (I don't use Sirius or any streaming service). (y)

Congrats on your impending Granger Ford delivery, enjoy the trip! :)

HA! I have little area in the dining room where I am putting my pile of "THINGS I CANNOT FORGET". If I do not do this I will forget to pack something.

Once I get this all in my carry on, I will see how much room I left for cloths. :)
