apple carplay doesn’t connect every startup?

this has been happening to me lately and it’s f*cking annoying.. but does anyone else’s truck not recognize iphone apple carplay when you first start up the truck and plug in the phone?? in order for me to fix the issue, i have to reset the sync screen using the steering wheel controls and it’s such a pet peeve to do so often.

does your truck require your phone to have the WiFi turned on, in order for carplay to work?
Mine always worked with just bluetooth for android auto, now it wont connect w/o enabling WiFi on my phone, which drains the battery fast.

I hear you, frustrating...... Every once in a while I need to do a HU reset (Vol. + FF on the dash). I haven't tried a direct connect via USB. I use bluetooth. Although I do believe I have WiFi enabled in the truck, so now I'm wondering..... I have to check that.....

FWIW.... I develop iOS apps for a living. I use the Apple Carplay developer kit in most of them. To unit test my code I have various HU's with Carplay built in as well as several iOS device models. I'm not saying there isn't a problem with Ford Sync, lord knows it does, but most of the time, the problem starts at the device. It's in some state where it just gets stuck. Heck, I've had my various ear bud brands fail to connect BT. I turn BT off and on and now they connect - very frustrating.

I hear you there man. Happens to me all to often. I was starting to think maybe my 2021 just had an older (1st revision) receiver/modem whatever it uses to make that connection...but I see you have a 2022...and I have a coworker who has a 2023 (he has never had issues). So who knows. Like TexasTruck said though, it's probably the device more than the truck. Might just mean its time for complete shutdown and restart of the iphone.

One thing I need to try yet is clean up my bluetooth connected devices, and see if that might help.

Yep. Happens to me too. I find most times shutting off and turning my phone back on can help. But it doesn't always do the trick. I connect wirelessly and Bluetooth is enabled. Last time I found that my Bluetooth wasn't even connecting to the truck. I ended up having to 'forget the device' and repaired my phone. Very annoying. Sometimes I'll just try plugging in the phone and that doesn't work either. I'm hoping the fix comes in a OTA update.

you’re only required to enable wifi and bluetooth on an iphone IF you’re doing wireless carplay.

I probably should have mentioned that I have also been having this issue since the 4.2 updates.

I ended up resetting CarPlay and setting it up again so it only works with a cable and not wireless. It has been mostly fine since.

My Bronco has wireless car play and it always connects without issue.

My 22 is having this issue as well. I asked Siri a question and it kicked me off sync and I had to pull over to restart it.

Mine was doing this quite often this year and then suddenly quit. I'm sure it will be back with a vengeance starting tomorrow morning now!

Same here, totally random when it decides to connect or not connect. End up doing the power and FF reset then it usually fixes the issue temporarily.

I have that problem too I think it’s related to the battery drain Ford can’t find. When it happens I see other things pop up too.

Chiming in with another "hit or miss" connection (wireless CarPlay). It does "hit" more often than miss, but it's frustrating when it doesn't work.

Another gripe I have is that if you're going from "outside" of CarPlay to a CarPlay function it won't revert afterwards.

The best example I have is if I'm listening to the radio and then "Hey Siri" to send a text or if I answer a phone call. After the text is sent or call ends, it doesn't revert back to the radio and I have to press "Audio" on the Sync display to have it come back on. If you're inside CarPlay, like listening to Spotify, it does return to the previous app after the text/call.
