That's insane, I would never buy a truck from there. Even GM dealers I've delt may require a deposit but you get it back if you decide not to take the vehicle. Sounds like Granger is a shitty, dishonest dealership
Lol. If you custom order a truck you should pay a non-refundable deposit. Nothing dishonest about it if you sign a paper that says in big bold letters deposit is non-refundable.

There's no guarantee they'll be able to easily sell your custom ordered truck with options you chose, vs for dealer-ordered they order options that are popular.

Yeah, like it or not, many dealers require non refundable deposits for custom ordered vehicles (Ford dealers and others). That said, if I had one on order that had not ETA from the manufacturer and wanted to cancel it I would have a conversation with that dealer and see if those circumstances would let me get my deposit back.

Dealer in my area has 4 on the lot. All of which were built the week after mine. Maybe mine WILL show up this week. It’s currently sitting at the rail yard 30 min from my house waiting for a truck. I won’t hold my breath.

Give me a break! The days of ordering ANYTHING that remotely resembles CUSTOM and can’t be sold, are gone. Loooooong gone. Green cars with red seats are not made. Vehicle manufacturers will not built CUSTOM orders that won’t sell. FACT. Of course, Ford WILL let you order a Bronco in red with blue seats. ?
Dealers still trade everywhere. If you think there is a red herring build for an F-150, I’m all ears.
I’ve bought over two dozen F-150’s in 35 years. Never a deposit. Never even a discussion. I’d move on before I’d ever put a non-refundable deposit down on a truck order.

I think the big picture is being missed, but if you want to pay dealer costs or more than 4% below invoice feel free to not pay the deposit.

however, I think it is comical that the dealer that is giving us the best deal is being Identified (not you) as a terrible dealer. To each their own I guess.

Call any Ford dealership in southeast Michigan, non of them make you put down a non-refundable deposit. Only an idiot (you) would fall for a greasy sales tactic like that. Everyone on here all talks like Granger is the best place to buy a truck. Also, the truck I'm getting is a custom order that another person didn't take.
Will they also sell it 4% under invoice price? Doubt it. Don't get what's so cool about a refundable deposit then paying at or near sticker.....

Yeah because Granger is the Only

You should call me a faggot ? money talks and I get employee pricing+10k off. Doesn't mean I give a pass to a company who gives no information or communication to all the people waiting for months on their non-existent 2024s.

I doubt that Ford can count the production sitting in their lots as “sales”. The usual metric is “shipments” after a valid order has been received. They have orders for some or all those vehicles but fail the shipment test. Consequently, I think Ford is at risk of missing Q1 sales as a result. That being said, 70% of management’s performance incentive is based on “quality”, which includes defects after delivery. I think that drove the decision to halt shipments. Read their February earnings call transcript for the year ended 12/31/23.
Note 6th paragraph - " One key issue for Ford is the importance of producing as many vehicles as possible, because they're recorded as a sale for the automaker when they leave the factory, not when they leave the dealership, noted John McElroy, veteran automotive analyst and host of the "Autoline After Hours" podcast and webcast. So according to the article, going to a hold lot for “quality checks” doesn’t qualify as a sale for Ford. They actually have to ship to a dealer

Exactly. The trucks haven’t “left the factory” since they a) haven’t been shipped to the dealer, and b) are not built — they have manufacturer recognized defects that make them unsuitable for sale.

I guess it depends on how they classify a holding lot. Is that still the factory, or is shipping to a holding lot leaving the factory? The way I read it is the sale happens when it leaves the factory, shipping to a holding lot is leaving the factory.

Also, if Ford noted a defect before they shipped and held their trucks for quality checks, would that mean that the trucks being built now have already had the corrections made to the assembly line and can ship right away whilst they continue to sort through the ones in purgatory? I.e. trucks being built this week (mine) would ship before one that came off the assembly line and is sitting in storage from last month?

Then again, if we all had Ford's crystal ball, this thread wouldn't be here.
