Yesterday was insanely hot touring the Statue, Ellis Island, and walking around lower Manhattan. Nothing better than starting the day with a NYC Bagel. ?

True, but today will be almost 20 degrees cooler in NYC than JAX, so I'll take it.

So we went to Pick a Bagel yesterday and Liberty Bagels today. We liked Liberty better. Still have to decide if we try a third place tomorrow or go back to Liberty. Hah!

Live life on the edge and try a 3rd! Many of the shops can be completely different and you could find a real diamond. Even if it ends up bad it will good compared to what we get locally.

HA! Man your killing me. Down here you will never find a bagel place that takes a spatula and dips it into a 3 gallon container of "shmear" and puts it in the bagel an inch thick.

That looks like a great Everything Egg Bagel too!

Back in the day, we would land at west 30th st. heliport early Sunday morning, load two S-76's full of bagels and haul ass down to Trump's casinos in Atlantic City.
Fresh and still warm bagels served to the customers.

Just for the record, salt bagels are the best. Yet just about every bagel chain outside of the Jewish delis in NY no longer sell them. The ULTIMATE delete.

So a new real bagel shop just opened up in Richmond VA this week, to a lot of fanfare. Well deserved fanfare I might add. Baltiks Bagels and the guy is of Lithuanian descent. At 6:30 AM the line for hot bagels was out the door. He said right now his selection is limited as he gets started but he has a substantial list on new ones to add. I asked him about pumpernickel and he said he would make a Lithuania rye which is a very dark bagel and somewhat similar. Sounds great. I also asked about a sunflower bagel and he said he did not have that could add it to the list for me, but it may take some time. Real nice guy.

Of his limited bagel selection he did have an old time favorite for some. Look at the pic and see if you can spot the "Sojourner Special".

It would be a bit of a drive (couple of hours), but I could see myself heading down there for a dozen. Or several!

HA! I can tell you that the Sesame bagel I just ate was one of the best I have had in a long time. Nice crunch on the outside and soft and hot on the inside. Kettle boiled hits the spot for a proper crunch. Right out of the oven just can't be beat.

It's a good day to be on the south side of Richmond across the river.
