Hi, This is BestEvMod, we are an experienced accessories developer that mainly focus on EV, and we are making a product for the F150 Lightning that will also fit ICE F150. we want to collect as many opinion as possible before we mass production this item.

We finished the prototyping on the pro power cover, we use 0.11 inch thick aluminum on this product and use a magnet to attach the cover so it won't rattle during daily driving.

the only thing we missing is the screw size now.
whats your thought?

I don't see a need for it, but some folks might. Even if I were interested, the devil is in the details. If a product manufacturer has bad grammar, it leaves me with the impression there is no eye for detail and I am very unlikely to buy anything from them. It does not present well.

My thought is this. If they had access or information enough to prototype an aluminum cover for the ProPower panel in the F150 bed, you would think that they also had access to one of the screws to get a thread pitch and length required to attach it.
I also see no need for it. It doesnt lock, therefore it doesnt provide any security.
I'm with @RickDawgFL on the grammer.

It does look like it has a hole for a RV style round lock or maybe that is the magnet latch.

I could defiantly see a use for it. Especially for construction or farming where people just dump things in their bed. Give the ProPower a nice bit of protection. Prolly a little more weather protection for those without covered beds too.

Needs work though. Driving on bumpy roads, worksites, fields, gravel, ect.. your going to hear that handle ratting.
Also, What's going to hold up that metal cover when in use? I hope you were not planning an that cover just laying on whatever connectors are in use. Not only is that additional side load bad for the sockets/Connectors, But trades don't always have brand new fantastic equipment. So you have an older cord and its frayed, 80% chance it will be frayed at the back of the plug which is right where this metal cover is going to sit.

I'm all for the extra protection. I'm always mindful of what's in my bed so it doesn't slide into the plastic propower panel, often adding extra straps or padding just to make sure there is no damage if something moves. Having a heavy duty cover over the panel would be awesome.

I don't see the use for this. Good idea, but the existing panel in the bed has pretty robust plastic covers. The pictures above don't look like it would offer substantially more protection, anything that would damage the current panel will likely dent/damage that cover as well. Also, how do you offer mock-up images with it not installed on a truck?

I agree that it would need to stay open when using the plugs.

I think its a fine idea.
It needs a latch and a strut of some kind to hold it widely open but it would protect against mulch gravel, loose soil etc.
Depending on cost and final design, I could see myself wanting this.

Edit: And I agree about that handle rattling. Thats a no go.

I think you need to spin it one turn so it is a door with the hinges on the side towards the front of the truck. Then you open the door from the back of the truck, it opens up all the sockets and with a door format, it will stay open without issue. It would be nice to have some socket protection if you use your bed "like a truck".

Thank you all for the great suggestions! these great suggestions are what we looking for here.
Some Owners mentioned my grammar is bad, I apologize about this, I am not a native speaker, but I will definitely use chatGPT or Grammarly to help fix my grammar in the future.

Probably not an effort that'd pay off anytime soon. I can't recall anyone taking issue with the factory parts. These are trucks that, for the same money just 5 years ago, one could have bought a house for. To replace the entire unit new is ~$130.

Sure, you'll sell a few here and there but ultimately it's a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Don't worry about grammar. I had a friend who ran a web forum from Belgium and every now and then someone would comment about his English. People would point out that English is this person's 4th language. 4th. I can only converse in one language so anyone that can converse in 2 or 3 languages is light years ahead of me. Good luck with the project!

Just because someone may not have the best grammar doesn't mean that they are not skilled. An old neighbor of mine was barely literate (quit school in the 5th grade to help his family) but despite this he was an absolute wizard when working with wood. There wasn't anything he couldn't build. Want a garage, sure thing. Custom kitchen cabinets? Child's play. A matching set of carved wooden serving bowls? No problem. A four door intricately carved china cabinet? You got it. He rarely used a tape measure and never touched a power tool. All done by hand and with incredible precision and beauty. As long as the product produced is good quality and is made correctly how the person who made it speaks or writes is of little importance.

I’m going to agree with many that I do t see a need for this. Ford designed the plug area knowing it potentially would be subject to the elements. The spring tension on the plug covers now I think is more than enough to keep them sealed when not in use. I don’t see a “security” need for them as if the truck is off there is no way to “steal” electricity. It’s an interesting idea but just can’t see a need at the moment.
