So strange my truck starts great in cold weather at 12.3 volts
3 different smart chargers will quit charging and maintain at 12.3V
Got me thinking we just bought new 24 RAV4
It has auto start/stop with AGM
It sit outside for 2 days without running
Check voltage 22.13V
What the heck?
Hit starter and fired up like summer
I’ll not replace a battery until it quits working because of voltage and I know what dealership will say if I bring it in
AGM batteries must carry lower voltage than normal wet cells although many searches don’t confirm this
My local Walmart only carries H6
I always replace my vehicle batteries with the biggest that will fit
In my 14 civic I had to discard top plastic bracket and use rubber with SS wire
I like bigger
Thanks again All!!

So, I’m bringing this battery issue back up to get some help with mine. I’ve got a 2023 platinum, auto start stop deleted from factory. 8k miles. Truck was sitting outside my house all week last week. Got in it Friday, last time I drove it was Sunday. Battery stone cold dead. No idea how or why. Took the battery to ford, they didn’t have time to bother with it, I needed the truck for a trip the next day. Went to Costco, bought the battery I needed. NON AGM, salesman said it would be fine. I installed it, truck fired up, had an abs error, rear tailgate module error, and rear tailgate won’t open using any method. So, I clear the abs issue with forscan, tailgate error won’t clear. I get in early Saturday morning to leave and I get a low battery voltage warning. So battery is draining. I assume it’s cause the truck thinks the tailgate is open. I drove 10 hours Saturday, dropped the truck at the dealer Sunday. Call today, they say they can’t find anything wrong with it. Told them BS and I’ll see them in a min. Advisor and I walk out to the truck, it’s dead as a doornail. I ask him how tech could find nothing if truck battery was dead. We jump it, truck fires up, abs fault is back, bit the tailgate WORKS this time. What the hell? Advisor tells me it’s cause of my non agm battery. Would the truck really drain the battery just cause it’s non agm? I’m going to pick it up tomorrow and take it to Costco to get the right battery. Any thoughts?

There are two advantages to AGM batteries. First is that they better withstand vibration as compared to FLAT batteries. The second is that they can be placed on their side with no problems.

The downside I discovered with the Ford battery in my 2022 F-150 was that it could not handle deep discharges and so it failed after less than 10 months of use. I replaced it with an Optima battery that was more like a "marine" battery and could handle deep discharges better than the Motorcraft ones.

New agm battery installed, once i did abs fault came back, tailgate stopped working again. Turned the truck off and on, abs fault went away, tailgate error still showing. Reset the BMS with forscan, still no tailgate. Tried to reboot the tailgate monitor with forscan, didn’t work. Frustrating.

Did you save your Forscan settings before replacing the battery? If you did then reloading them to the truck is worth a try.

No I didn’t. Hell, I didn’t even know I needed to reprogram anything just to change a battery, that’s lunacy to me. But everything works, except for the tailgate. I rebooted the module, still nothing. Truck tells me tailgate ajar, it’s locked up tight. So back to the dealer we go

Something drained the original AGM battery. Put an OEM equivalent battery back in and make the dealership do the warranty work on your 2023. That would be my plan going forward.

Yea, I couldn’t get my original ford battery back, but I bought a new Interstate AGM battery, seems to have solved the discharging issue the truck was having. So I’ll let the dealer work the tailgate problem under warranty

That’s what I meant. An equivalent AGM and the dealer owes you the rest.
