So having an FX4 and a plethora of dirt roads around me was fun until I got grit into my driver's door seal and scratched the ever-loving s*** out of my driver's door window raising and lowering it. I've checked with several shops who advise they aren't able to polish out scratches and that a replacement is needed.

A replacement OEM window is costing me $700-900 CAD, while an aftermarket Fuyao or Pilkington is costing me $400. This is an out of the pocket repair and unless there's a good reason (I'm keeping the truck long term and I don't care about matching glass logos) I'm tempted to go with the aftermarket glass.

Just wondering about everyone's experiences with aftermarket glass and particularly those brands if you know.

Also, anyone have advice on how to clean the window seal? I've sprayed it down with APC and rubbed the heck out of it with a microfiber cloth to remove the grit, but with the window as scratched up as it is I can't confirm I've gotten it to where a new window won't be immediately destroyed.

I would think glass is glass. Try putting some plastic wrap on your window and hold the outside seal back and try putting your window down like 1/2 way then back up. See if plastic is scratched. Could ask glass shop to make sure it’s clean, hopefully they are nice and do it for you

You can polish scratches out of glass, but a deep scratch really isn't going to polish out without removing an equal amount of glass around it. Not a fast process and needs a diamond compound. Front windows are laminated like the windshield is.

Break it and file an insurance claim.

I did a fair bit of research into polishing and thought about trying it myself, however knowing my luck I'd distort the glass or shatter it for almost the same price of replacing the glass. It's a good enough chance to redo my tint and get the fronts matching the rear.

Break it and file an insurance claim.
Aftermarket is cheaper than my deductible. Apparently glass policies aren't a thing in Ontario, just comprehensive coverage for damage. Plus the way the insurance business is doing I don't need a claim on my record unless I practically total this thing.

Might want to check the aftermarket glass to see if it's an acoustic laminate that matches the factory glass.
