I can't be the first one to ask this, but none of my searches came up with anything. How hard would it be to add a battery in parallel with the PowerBoost battery to increase the amp-hours available? Would it mess with some setting or charging ability of the system?

Not sure how the PB system would react. But I did that in my 2009 prius about 12 years ago and had to use a DC to DC converter to push current into the battery terminal from a 4kWh lithium battery in that I could recharge. That trick the toyota hybrid system to think the battery is constantly full and it would apply ev assist to the drive trian and keep the EV mode for much longer. Only limited by the 10A of he DC to DC converter.

Not sure if I will be doing the same with my not yet delivered PB. But now I am thinking about it. Only thing is he voltage of these modern systems are really high, some 400V...

The problem is: Where do you put the additional battery?
Most people don't use their beds 100% so maybe do a flat battery up against the front of the bed and cover it?
After driving the PB around for the last few weeks it def needs a larger capacity. If the stock is 1.9 and it's using about 50% of that (30-65%?) a 4KW would have done much better.

Agreed. I have an Escpape Hybrid (2006). New it coud go about 2.5 miles on a battery charge. The F-150 maybe makes it to 0.8 miles... Still, they've got a weight and balance issue and a space issue...

Where are you all driving that a larger battery would help? I have a very hybrid friendly drive to and from work and there is only one place that the larger battery would help, and even then only for maybe an added ½ mi. I'd then need to worry about burning fuel to recharge the added battery capacity because there's no where to get regenerative braking charge. IMO, a larger battery is useless without having a larger motor that could actually help propel the truck and gain/maintain speed uphill.

I run into the battery not accepting any more charge all the time using the regeneration and then it switches over to the service brakes (green to white). I live in the Seattle area so a lot of ups and downs and longer hills to regenerate.

Maybe in the future, they will have a battery pack that has more capacity that can be interchanged with the current system? Technology is always changing and just a thought.

I am very surprised they don't tout that more. I do wonder how well it integrates though. Be pretty cool if we could buy a larger replacement battery that fit in the stock area. I'm sure ford kept it smallish just for cost concerns.
2nd electric motor and additional battery pack should work better, additional 220 ft-lb torque added at driveline.

But are you actually depleting the battery charger consistently? I have a couple places I can max out the charge as well, but no where that I can then utilize that full charge due to the small motor.

I'm sure they run great I would want to see how well it shuts off the existing motor, charges/operates compared to a true factory integration designed and built by Ford.

I run out of battery all the time as I'm doing a slow cruise at say 35-40 and after a little bit of that the big engine turns on due to lack of electricity, not because I'm asking for more power and needing the gas engine.
Are you saying something else other than this?

With my current job, I have a half-mile commute each way during the week, not too hilly. The 3.5 never even warms up, and I don't know if you've seen the gas mileage on that engine while cold, but its about 7-8mpg. I get that twice a day, since it won't run very long on battery. If you know a way to get it to stay on battery longer, I'm all ears. I've tried eco mode, and it seems like it helps a little, but really not all that much.

Maybe the 2nd gen PB will have a larger battery, better motor and be a plug in.
