Was using adaptive cruise control yesterday in stop and go highway traffic as I usually do. Out of nowhere the car started hard accelerating toward the car in front of me. I was able to slam on the brakes and the pre collision warning came on but it was an unsettling moment.

I've seen that in various vehicles over the years so that's not something exclusive to the F-150. The sensors aren't always perfect and that's why adapative is considered a hands on stay alert system.

That hasn’t happened to me in the truck yet - but had it a handful of times in my genesis and my gf’s Honda. It’s not an attention free system

It’s happened to me but it’s been when a car leaves a lane as it was braking. It gets confused. I never trust it fully anyways so I always am ready to take over

Does your truck have a leveling kit or lift? My dealer installed a leveling kit and the pre collision didn't work until I forced them to recalibrate it based on the higher ride height. Something to consider

My 21 powerboost with blue cruise has applied brakes fairly strong when a vehicle is moving out of lane and turning ahead of me enough that i added some right peddle so as to not make guy behind me get "brake checked". Probably my mistake as I should have just added some braking and gas so truck would 1) cancel cruise and 2) the truck would know I was in charge so it wouldn't perform collision avoidance (unless it was imminent to happen). It just is scary when brakes are getting applied fairly strong at freeway speed. I don't blame truck as I should have touched brakes as the driver. Now sudden acceleration is a different situation that I only encounter when cruise set way higher speed than current traffic and lane ahead opens up and truck tries to speed up to set point while cruise system is on.

And that’s why I didn’t opt for that voodoo nonsense with my XLT! Not really…I didn’t realize what I wasn’t getting because the names for features were confusing and I was focused on the 7.2kW and the price. I wish I had adaptive like my Subaru does. It’s nearly hands free with it’s eyesight camera system.

I am getting pretty skilled with the thumb operated throttle control on the steering wheel though. Adaptive speed control for those who didn’t do their research properly lol

You can still be for a system while acknowledging that it won't work 100% of the time though.
Acknowledging that auto updates don't work 100% of the time is one thing. A system that you are supposed to rely on to drive you 'automatically' in a safe way when the sensors aren't always perfect is another.

I've not had this issue with my 2021, but I had it a half dozen times in my 2018, very unsettling. Appears to happen mostly when there was a white vehicle in front of me, I think the radar gets confused.

While I would NEVER trust driving assistance technology enough to relieve ME of 100% accountability as the chief pilot, I now have better than 2 years of almost daily adaptive cruise/lane centering driving.
Although I have become very well aware of its potential glitches and the circumstances that lend to them, I find the overall experience fantastic.

I'm an old man from an era of 100% analog driving. This truck is like piloting a spaceship for me, relatively speaking. I'm often in awe. I guess I'm not easily jaded. ?
