Just wait until the 24's come out and people argue about the old one looking better.

At least they're not Chevy's!

(Kidding of course)
Obviously. Ford is going to ruin the heritage of the entire F series line by rolling out a newer version. They really should’ve just called it a day after they released the model T. It objectively wasn’t going to get any better than that.

So, a once 5.0L lover, but severely tainted, did they ever cure the oil issue wit the 5.0L? After getting ready for the 3rd engine in my 2018, I said never again. Now I’m looking at options for my next truck, and wondering if I’d be foolish to consider the 5.0 again.

You can visit my 4th gen tech spec thread in the 5.0 section. The 4th gen has new pistons, piston rings, connecting rods, intake manifold, throttle body, oil pump, oil pan, camshafts. Pretty much a totally new engine vs your 2018. As far as what to buy, that’s up to you! What I can tell you is my 2023 5.0 has never used a single drop of oil, every 5,000 miles when I change it it’s at the top of the dipstick?‍♂

The majority got no oil issue. Of course there were numerous threads about V8 oil consumption, but just imagine how many Coyote engines built. It's in human nature to be vocal about cons rather than pros. In my humble opinion Coyote is one of the best V8's on the market.
I feel your pain about two defective engines in a row. If I were you I'd stay away from buying lottery tickets for some time.

Good to hear! Thanks for the response. I loved my 2018, but that issue just blew me away. I miss the Corsa Extreme I had on it, and with the super quiet Lightning I have now, I’ll probably go back!

For what it's worth I've owned a 5.0 (2013 XLT SuperCrew 4x4 3.55) and now 3.5 EB (2023 Lariat SuperCrew 4x4 3.55 Max Tow). Out in the mountain West the EB does noticeably better at altitude. The 5.0 needs a little pursuasion. The 3.5 is really "truck-y" with everyone noting low-end torque. Yep...but damn that's a lot of torque! Conversely, the 3.5 sounds like a Zamboni when the windows are open.

Recently I got an instrumented 0-60 time of 5.41 seconds with a bone stock 5.0-liter XL 4x4 and 3.31 gears with a relatively heavy 4900 lb Super Cab. Seems plenty quick enough to me and I love the sound, linear power delivery, and 6800 RPM redline. I see many owners with the 2.7 get 0-60 in the low 6 second to high 6 second range depending on trim I guess. Seems like the 5.0 slots right in the middle of the 2.7 and 3.5, but much closer to the 3.5 with the 3.5 having the low end torque advantage but the 5.0 having the high end power advantage. These engines are all pretty amazing especially compared to not that long ago when you were lucky if your truck could get 0-60 in under 7 seconds.

You’re absolutely right. There isn’t a bad choice. I can’t very well brag on my PB’s throaty rumble, so I poke fun by mentioning that sound won’t help you ?

I do root for the fantastic 5.0 when it goes against the GM 6.2L V8. That’s the fight.

But it does help me smile every time I call on its naturally powerful and sonic greatness which you can only get from combustion that occurs every 90-degrees of crankshaft revolution and the area under the torque curve is very usable too. Then I get in my super reliable 2014 F-150 which I drive 100 miles round trip every day to work and its 306 HP 3.7-liter V6 has combustion that occurs every 120-degrees of crankshaft revolution, but unfortunately it also sounds like a teenage boy that is just starting to go through puberty. ?? Then I sometimes get in my Mazda CX5 with an engine that has combustion that occurs every 180-degrees of crankshaft revolution and it can also rev above 6000 RPM, but man, that sound is, well, not so good. Kind of sounds like a sick young kid actually calling for help . ? But hey, it gets over 37 MPG on the highway if I try and it is cheap to maintain. ??. That powerboost is kinda like my 3.7 V6 only its got training wheels on. ? The kid on the training wheels is saying, look at me dad, I can fly.

It wont be long before the American V8 rumble is a thing of the past and when that happens very soon anyone that still owns one is going to own something special. Sort of like those old muscle cars that I could buy for $500 when I was a kid and now they are collectible and worth much more.

Is your 3.7 V6 faster and more powerful than your 5.0 V8?
What are the training wheels in your analogy? The turbos? The traction motor?

Interesting that variable valve timing and high pressure/volume fuel injection is perfectly “natural”, but by God don’t you force feed any air down its throat! Just ain’t natural!

I've been on the steepest interstate downhill east of the Mississippi (Fancy Gap) with a 65 limit when all of a sudden the truck read or was told the limit was 85. It dropped a couple of gears and accelerated like a bat outta hell.

That was the only time its scared me......
