My ‘23 STX had to have a new short block installed because of an oil leak at 2600 miles that would not die! So, here’s what our short block looks like without all the accessories and heads!

Did the cab have to come off ? I know the SuperDuty diesels they do but I didn’t think it was necessary for a 5.0

Yes the cab came off! Just made it easier for the tech to do the job. Less likely to damage fenders and hood.

It leaked since the day I bought it! It only has 2600 miles on it. Sucks!!!! Cause I have to do the break in all over again! I’ve owned it 18 weeks. It’s been at the dealer for the oil leak almost half the time I’ve owned it.

Oh no doubt easier to work on the engine. Just wasn’t sure if it was normal to do for these. Enjoy the new engine??

It’s nearly impossible to remove one of the engines in these trucks without removing the cab

I don't believe in baby breaking in procedures. To me, that's just delaying the inevitable. If it was not built right, I want to know immediately, not in 10000 miles. Drive it like normal, that first 1,000 miles, do the oil change and drive it like normal.

I plan on driving like I normally would. I’m just not going to be dogging it to redline for a while!

A factory supplied short block isn't anything spectacular for breaking in. Just let the rings seat and settle and all is well. It's not a custom built blueprinted race engine. Those just idle for a bit and then go balls to the wall on the dyno.

Where was it leaking from? Was it related to the oil filter housing TSB?
