Took my truck in on June 9th for the recall. Bolts were not broken. They still ordered the new axles and only one came in and said the axles were now all backordered. They called on Aug. 1 to tell me the other axle came in so I took it Monday the 4th and they replaced both of them in about 2 hours.

Took mine in on 8/6 to investigate a rattle. Found the drivers side axle bolt head sheared off. Took pictures and ordered parts to replace both on 8/8. Supposedly, Ford released the parts and they are enroute. Dealer wouldn't release the truck back to me citing safety issues. No loaner.

I'll update in case anyone's curious.
I am definitely interested. What state and dealer are you dealing with?

Mine were replaced. Not broken, but they did have to take some sort of pictures to send to Ford before replacement.

Burnouts feel the same afterwards. 🤷‍♂️

I think it's unreasonable that you should do so, but I'd talk to all the Ford dealerships that you'd be willing to drive to.
So far it appears the experience is very inconsistent between dealerships.

Edit: And in my opinion if you can even tell the bolt is missing from the driver's seat? You have worst case scenario for a broken axle bolt.
Yes the experience seems inconsistent.
About 3 weeks ago I started to hear the rattle and squeaks from the right rear. I have about 58,500 miles including probably 5000 miles light (7000 #) towing. Removed rear wheels right rear bolt sheared off, left rear loose. Called local relatively small dealer. They took my truck for two days and verified issue ordered parts etc. They seemed to have no idea when parts would come in, 1 week, 2 weeks, 6 weeks. I called Ford and created a case and it was elevated to the “elevation team”. I talked to my case worker 3 times, his next call is tomorrow. Each time he basically had no concrete information. Last week he told me should have the parts 3rd week of Septembe. My new axle assembly’s were elevated to “emergency back order”.
In the mean time I had to make a trip to Tucson. I called the service manager of a high volume dealer with a sister store in Phoenix. I said my axles are making noise the bolts broke can I text you a pictures odometer VIN etc. He said you bet no problem created the RO and ordered the parts. He had the parts last Thursday in two days and they were installed today, Monday. I arrived at the dealer at 7 AM and they were done at 9 AM including washing my truck. I also talked with the master tech twice while he did the install of an entire new assembly both sides.
So I’m pretty happy now and my truck is like new.
I must say I’m miffed how Ford engineers could design this truck that is so advanced and so well thought out, way beyond my previous trucks, but still make such a bone-head stupid axle mistake… something so basic.

It's interesting that a dealer could provide you with parts. I am dealing with Ford's largest sales leader in North America here in Livonia, MI, and got nowhere on parts. I also elevated to Ford Customer Care and they were useless. I hauled 7500 lbs of Ag lime last weekend 40 miles to my hunting cabin and I am pretty sure I sheared the other side. Per Ford, ok to drive so I drove it to work today and home on the freeway

I know. You would think you couldn‘t be anywhere better than Detroit metro area. I’m not even sure where the new axles are made and I imagine batches are sent out to regional distribution centers.
One thing is they replace the whole assembly so even if you are wearing the splines through use with the bolts broken (I was worried about this) it’s all new after recall.
Also, I second that customer care appeared useless, nice but useless.

Update as of 7/29 for those interested:

on 6/24 I called Ford customer support and opened a case. They attempted to reach my dealer’s service manager and left voicemails. Ford told me they'd follow up once they heard back.

In the meantime, I called my service rep to give him a heads-up. The next day (6/25), both Ford and the dealer got back to me confirming they would order the parts without validation that the bolt was broken, which contradicted what the dealer had previously told me. Service manager was glad I called Ford and had a case created, because he said it gave them ammo to get parts on order.

Then, the dealer called again on 6/28 asking for pictures of the hub so I sent those in. As of 7/1, the parts have been "on order," but I haven’t heard anything since and they can't tell me any ETA.
Last update, Dealer called

Last update - finally got the parts and the work completed. Dealer was done with the work same day - said this was the 2nd one they'd done and it took them about 3 hours. I had the work done on 8/15/25 so about5 weeks from when the dealer said they ordered the parts to get them installed for those of you keeping track.

Hearing from dealer that recall parts on back order until late October. Had my vin and odometer submitted and recall scheduled early Jul. No line of site on when parts are available beyond recall. Reserve yer spot asap if not already in line…and no cutting please!

Not going to cut in line. Heck, the truck is 3.5 years old with the inferior design. I'm not getting up out of my chair to stand in line until I see the line moving briskly, or no line at all.

Living dangerously! :)

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster. I have a 2024 that got the recall mid aug. Called the same day and got an appointment 6 weeks out. Called two days ahead of time to make sure they had parts. Was assured they had them and the recall would be fixed. Dropped the truck off and got a call back same day that it was fixed. I pressed a little on what was fixed at pickup and was told the bolts were replaced. I mentioned that the recall fix should be nuts and not just replaced bolts. Had to push even harder to get the parts ordered. Currently waiting for the parts.

It seemed a little weird to me that they could have been doing this recall for over 2 years at this point and not know what was going on but that was the case. Thank goodness Ive creeped on this forum to have an idea of what was needed. Makes me wonder whats happening to people not aware of what the fix should be.

As of september 25 it seems like the order of operations is 1st appointment to take pictures and order parts, 2nd to actually fix them - but again, not sure what would have happened if I didnt know what needed to be done.

Ford requires pictures of the VIN (door label?) and of the odometer before they'll ship parts. What graft they're trying to prevent, I don't know.

I had an appointment in May to get my '21 fixed. They did the old bolt replacement procedure and said it was fixed. I educated them as to the new fix with replacement axles having nuts. They ordered them but didn't get both until a day before I left on a 2-month road trip, so we cancelled that order.

I just went back today for a new set of pictures (10 minutes that didn't require an appointment) with updated mileage. The axles are now on order. I have an appointment for the 16th but that assumes they'll get the axles by then. I'm not going anywhere and am not in a rush.

I've had the bolts checked numerous times the last 18 months due to clicking noises. Bolt on passenger side snapped 8/8/25 while out of town in San Antonio, TX. I heard noises, had it checked out by a brake shop. My normal dealer is Freedom Ford in Greenville, TX - they said "DO NOT DRIVE, TOW IT". Towed it to Northside Ford in San Antonio. Parts back-ordered. Unknown delivery date. They put me in rental car. Northside Ford reiterates "CANNOT DRIVE IT. TOO DANGEROUS" each time I ask if I can drive it.
All our planned trips are on hold or cancelled. Thanks Ford 😢.
Incredible. This is a known issue for 2 years and still no parts available to get me back on the road.
