OK, so I have a 2021 F150 XLT Screw with the 3.5 eco-boost. it has the fox 2.5 all around 35 inch tires and 355 gears.
I currently have the CV Fab intercooler and colder spark plugs. I am ordering the 170° thermostat and I am waiting for delivery of the CV Fab downpipe’s with cats.
I am planning to go with a five star tune.
What am I missing? I’ve been told that at about 500 wheel horsepower I should not need any more airflow than the factory air box assembly.
Due to the fact that I tow with this vehicle and go off road I feel as if I would rather stay with the factory paper filter or potentially just go to a KNN what are you guys think about this?

I used a K&N filter in my Mustang for years but eventually went back to a paper filter. The material didn't filter as well as paper and it was too easy to over or under oil it and cause problems. They are also way more expensive to replace if they break like mine did.

I never bothered with my F-150s to use anything other than paper. On the 14th gens in particular, the intake design seems to allow more dirt into the filter due to a better flowing design. I have way more dirt on my 2024 filter at 3000 miles than I did on my previous 2011 after 10s of thousands.

I’d consider MPT for tune

Supposedly the stock intake snorkel can start to collapse and restrict air flow once you tune. I believe Cobb makes a little bracket to help add support to prevent it that is relatively cheap. I think they also have video showing the factory piece collapsing. Other than that I think you’ll be fine with the stock intake.
