I'm looking for winter tires for next season. My PB has 18's ( 275/65R18 ) but I have the Sport Appearance Package.

Looking for a set of additional wheels for the winter tires. I know the 17's fit if you don't have Max Tow, which I do not have.

My concern is that the OEM 17s ( 265/70R17 ) seem to have come with Pirelli tires that do not have as high a load capacity as the Goodyears that came on my 18" Powerboost. I think I've heard that the Powerboost has some changes to the frame as well, so I wonder if the Powerboost has higher load capacity requirements than non-PB models. I know the 17's were standard on XLT 4x4 but I cannot recall if optioning the Powerboost automatically forced you into 18's or 20's for 2023.

If the Powerboost came with OEM 17's, then I'm not so concerned. But if all Powerboost have at least 18" + then maybe I need to stick with 18's for the winter tires.

Anyone have a PB that came with the 17" factory wheels?

Doesn't help you right now I guess, but I have a '25 powerboost on order for a new company truck. It's the XL trim and it will come with 17" wheels. 265/70R17 to be exact. They don't tell me the brand of tire it will come with though.

My 2023 Powerboost (Lariat) came with the 20" Alloy Rims. My winter tires (sold by the dealer) are 17" on 17" steel rims. The winters I have are Continental IceContact XTRM (studded) 265/70R17 116T XL's. No issues that I'm aware of, and now on my 2nd winter with them. I am running them with about 4-5psi more pressure than the OEM's

You sure about that? I didn't think the Powerboost was available on that trim and it doesn't appear to show up in their build tool.

It's a fleet only option. "104A" package on the XL trim. It's on the 2025 order guide.

Ok interesting. I don't think much has changed after the 2024 refresh.

Will your 25 PB have 4x4 or is it 4x2?

Ok, also helpful as well, appreciate it. I am quite certain that the 4x2 got 245/70R17's. The 4x4s got 265/70R17s.

I crunched the numbers for the 245 17's and they seem like they may be a bit low on load rating for my 4x4 PB rear axle, which is 4150 GVWR. However, according to FMVSS I think you have to multiply that by 1.10 to get a safety margin when using passenger car tires. So that is 4565lbs GVWR on rear axle. Load ratings for the 245 winter tires I'm looking at at 35PSI are in the 4476-4520 range. Probably OK but a tad low for the rear axle. The 265 17's from the 4x4 models are good, as are the 18s.

My vibe so far is that Powerboosts with 17" tires seem to exist. Probably feeling pretty good going with 17's for winter but getting the 265 width tire and not the 245 width.

Ok this makes sense too since they're XL load tires. My understanding is you have raise the pressure a bit with the XLs. SL load tires are designed for 35 or 36psi to carry their maximum capacity. To get equivalent load capacity in XL tires you have to bump up to 41psi (if the load index is the same for both). If you leave it at 35PSI for the XL tires, if the load index is the same, you lose around 300lbs carrying capacity per tire.

I've learned way way too much about cargo capacity and tire load capacities etc since buying a truck. Never paid attention in my cars. Seems a lot easier to exceed ratings in a pickup, or run underinflated if you don't pay attention.

My 2025 will be 4x4, so it'll come with the 265/70R17 size. The 245 width that comes on the 4x2 trucks seems small for a full size truck tire...
