Just replaced my 2016 3.5 EcoBoost 502A Lariat with a 2024 King Ranch 5.5' Ecoboost.

I've had it for 3 days and have put ~1k miles on it (had to go on a 700 mile business trip).

The ride sticks out to me as being harsher vs my 2016 Lariat. I never recall thinking that my 2016 felt harsh. I immediately had that impression in the 24 KR within a few minutes of driving off the dealer lot.

I'm surprised this is the case because my understanding is my truck has the CCD suspension (see attached photos).

Some questions:
  1. my windows sticker lists "Less onboard scale/smart hitch". Does CCD require the scale to function? Could this mean that my CCD is disabled despite being installed?
  2. Will the suspension "wear in" any further after 1,000 miles? Do I just need to give it some more time?
  3. anything else that could be going on here?
  4. What options do I have to soften the ride?

Maybe it's all just in my head too -- I've been driving around my Wife's Q7 with air suspenion a lot the past few months. Maybe I've just gone soft

Step 1 is to check the tire pressure. I've had a couple new cars delivered to me with 45 lbs of air- which I think is what they set them at for transport. Also, if it has LT tires for the max tow, they will definitely ride harder.

cold pressure on rear tires is 35 and 36. Doesn't seem crazy.

New 20" wheels versus old 18" wheels possibly?

I stayed away from large wheels when I ordered my 2024 XLT for that reason. That said, I wasn't too pleased by the ride with just standard wheels, but at 3000 miles it now rides smooth.

Did your old Lariat have the FX4 Package? I'm pretty sure the FX4 has a softer shock tuning, I noticed this when going from my 14 Limited to my 18 Lariat with FX4, the Lariat is much softer than the Limited, but also the Limited had 22's and the Lariat has 20's.

No FX4 on my 2016 Lariat

I have a 24 Plat and when I test drove the 23s that was the first thing I noticed coming from a 2016. Way stiffer ride. The Plat like your KR has the CCD and while I still think not has smooth as my 2016 over time I like how my 24 is riding. Not sure if it just loosened up or I'm just use to it.

Maybe it’s because I have driven only full size trucks for 25 years, but I have noticed little difference between the 22 XLT 302a with the 2.7 EB I had or my 24 KR as far as ride quality. The XLT didn’t have the FX4, but the KR does. Maybe that is why.

But man oh man, the KR has way worse understeer than the XLT. I attribute that to the 600 or so extra pounds of weight of the KR. The XLT felt like a go cart compared to the KR!

Those are definitely CCD shocks. Not having the “scales” shouldn’t affect the system as far as I know. Maybe they are stuck in full firm mode? ?‍♂

Give it a little time. My ‘23 Lariat w/ max tow was a little harsher than my ‘13 and the trans was clunky. After around 3500 miles everything settled in and she’s a smooth road tripper now. Good luck.

Is it possible to swap the 3-leaf max tow springs with the standard 2 leaf springs?

I have the same situation. I replaced my 2020 Lariat 6.5 box with a 2024 kr 5.5 box and am not happy with the ride quality. The front end picks up every road irregularity where it almost feels like something is out of balance. I have had it to the dealer twice and they say they can’t feel anything that isn’t normal. I even switched the tires out to Michelin with No Improvement. Truck has about 7,000 miles.
