2023 Lariat Powerboost - all FDRS updates fail with power cutout as flash begins

So tried a 2nd laptop, first with FDRS 46.5.6, and then again with FDRS 46.5.4. Fresh installs with both. When Inuninstalled 46.5.6 to install 45.6.4, I confirmed the entire FDrS application directory and everything in it was completely deleted (the uninstall did in fact wipe everything). Virus scanning and firewalls turned off, strong wi-fi in driveway. Mongoose works fine with both FDRS and Forscan. Same result as before with both FDRS versions on a virgin laptop. Power cuts as soon as the module write operation starts after it reads a bunch of things, talks to corporate server, and the flash begins. This was with a minor module.. OCSM. Same result regardless of module. Also same result with either the Mongoose or TopDon cables. Tried on just battery, and battery with Clore in power supply mode at 13.8v.

I am at my wits end… Is there an older FDRS version available that still supports subscriptions where you have a login screen? I don’t know what else to try…

When you started this process, is this your first time using FDRS and first time getting a license for your email account? That's the only other thing different for me, I heeded @rugedraw advice and made a whole new motorcraft account so it didn't screw with my Fordpass and everything just to be safe. I've bought numerous old style FDRS licenses for my usual/main account, but first time for this new account just yesterday. So I wonder if that maybe has something to do with it?

I created an FDRS-specific account a little over a year ago to make sure that login issues didn’t foul up FordPass and my Ford.com account. Never had a problem with it but I haven’t used it with the new subscription service yet.

I used my FordPass account for the FDRS subscription. That said, I login and authenticate for FDRS with no issues…

So I loaded my old laptop up with 45.6.8 to give it a shot, module update took off just like it should and updated without any issue. Hooked my main laptop up again with 46.5.6 just try try today, insta fail right away like yesterday. Loaded 45.6.8 to my main laptop, got it fired up, and updates took off just fine like they should so burning through them right now. So issue with good ol 46.5.6 in my case.

@jtrimm have you tried 45.6.8 or were you trying to use 45.6.4?

I tried 46.5.6 and 46.5.4 (since 46.5.5 is known to be bad). I can’t find any links to download the older 45.6.8 FDRS. Does that support logging in with the FDRS subscription login page vs. the old activation code? Does anyone have a link to the older 45.6.8 version?

BTW… thanks for this. Clearly speaks to a big FDRS issue with the latest 46.5.X version…

If he’s found that 45.6.8 works, you could try it. See this post on another forum for a link. Haven’t tried it myself, hope it works for you. I don’t think that version was out for long. You’d want to activate with Ford ID and password for your subscription, not the old license way.

edit: The relatively easy to use and cheaper “old license way” at $50 per 2 day changed in early Oct ’25 and it has been kinda FUBAR since then as you’ve experienced. Initially people had trouble with logins etc. Anyway, I think there is a link to that older software here:

Quick update- I downloaded 45.6.8, uninstalled 46.5.6, installed 45.6.8, and the updates are working now!!! I got occupant detection module updated as well as the DCDC module! Thank god… Thank you for everyone’s help troubleshooting. Shoutout to SuperFordMan for figuring out that going back to 45.6.8 fixed things for him. We’ll see how the rest of the updates go, but clearly 46.5.X versions are fubar’ed.

For anyone else that runs into the same problem and finds this thread: FDRS 46.5.X versions (46.5.4, 46.5.5, and the latest 46.5.6) all failed spectacularly to run any updates. The power would cut, and then it would always report that the update failed. Reverting to 45.6.8 works properly. The new Ford login-page based subscriptions also work with the 45.6.8 version.

Good deal! Glad to hear it worked for you also. I just spent the last 3+ hours blasting through my updates since my subscription expires first thing tomorrow morning already but updated everything without a hitch. I noticed the same during install, it gave the option for either new subscription or license key, and using my new subscription worked just fine.

How much do you want to bet they drop a 46.5.7 version tomorrow now...
