Well I guess I fell victim to the infamous cam phasers rattle. My engine is a 2.7 Ecoboost.
I thought this issue was resolved and that ford learned from the 3.5
after watching many videos on preventative maintenance and doing everything I could to take care of my truck it still happened!

Changed the oil every 5k with full synthetic, never dogged the truck, well it don't matter what you do or don't, if its meant to fail it will fail.

My question for the gurus, will the cam phasers be replaced with the same ones (part #)? or has a new part been issued? the truck build date was 04/2023
I am thinking I don't want the cam phasers to fail again once I am out of warranty, If the same phasers (part numbers) are installed I am going to get them fixed and sell this truck. I love the engine but don't want to risk a $$$ repair bill in the future, knowing that these same parts were going to fail.

Any constructive input is appreciated, also might just jump to a 3.5 if the phaser issue is even resolved?

I have yet to hear of any 14th Gen 3.5 with cam phaser issues.

How many miles on your pickup, type of oil/filter......you know details that maintenance nerds like to know.

I'm sure now that I've posted this that someone will dig up some search results to prove me wrong........

Rare indeed.
At least around here.
I'm sceptical, to be honest. But I guess there's a chance for a faulty component of some kind prohibiting oil pressure getting to the phaser, or phasers?

I am siding with @Snakebitten on this one. I can't remember anyone posting a thread about having the phaser/s failure with a 3.5 on here. One would think it was something else happened to cause the failure. Please post what the dealer finds as to the cause.

Yes will be curious what they find once they open it up. Will be first one I’ve read about.

My truck build date was also 04/2023 and I'm at 70K mileage now. 2.7L XL. This is the first cam phaser post I've seen as well. Interested to hear more once you hopefully get it resolved under warranty.

I can only imagine that there might be some sort of defect in his drivetrain. Unlucky!

One hit wonder? Mentioned the "infamous" cam phaser rattle and disappeared like a fart in the wind. I wonder if he saw mentions of 5.4 triton cam phaser rattle, which really IS infamous, and mistakenly applied it to this?

Been away at work.
Here is a video of a cold start of the 2.7 EcoBoost @ 14,000 miles.
I am planning to get it repaired this week.

None of us here have ever heard of 2.7 cam phaser failures, at least in any amount. Pray, tell what source of information does your friend have that an entire community of f150 owners, many of who own the engine in question, have never heard of despite probably millions of miles between them on the engine?

I thought that was nearly impossible with the 2.7

Certainly sucks.

OP…….repair under warranty, correct?

Definitely sounds like a phaser. Hopefully you can actually get the dealership to let you see the ones they remove. And I'm not sure if 2.7 are like 3.5 but there was/is actually an updated phaser on the 3.5 that helped remedy most of their issues...worth looking into.

Here is my 3.5 with new style on the left and old style on the right (exposed spring) as I was changing mine out...no idea if this applies to the 2.7 but just passing along info for you! Keep us updated!

Jeez, reminds me of the timing chain on the old 427 sohc motors! No, I've never owned or worked on one of those, but the pictures are impressive.
