Haven't seen anybody else posting this yet, but according to its Canadian ratings, the '22 Powerboost has decreased fuel efficiency compared to the '21...

It's only a 1 mpg change, but still unfortunate to see it going down rather than up. I wonder if this has to do with them changing thing to try to conserve chips?

Interesting, but the US Gov official numbers are different, can't tell your source from the post.

2WD PB '21 vs '22 the Combined and City are the same at 25mpg, only the Highway dropped from 26 to 25. So no real change.

On the 4W PB '21 vs '22 is a change from 24mpg to 23mpg on Combined, City and Highway.

Don't think related to chips are anything, just a refined measurement of the costs of the 4WD impact.

I thought I saw Ford Authority post this a week or two ago about the reduction from 24 to 23 for the 2022 MY.

That doesn't surprise me, as my dash tells me 23, which is never correct compared to hand calculations, which have been a solid 1.3 to 1.6 below that across a full tank.

I'm starting to wonder if I may have an issue tho, because my engine seems to idle rough sometimes and has a growl to it thats more easily heard when windows are down under moderate acceleration.

Still, much better than my 05 4.6 (17mpg) and my 87 4x4 302 Lariat (11 mpg if you keep it to 55 LMAO)

Interesting! Just must have been slightly worse luck or a tweak to the official test methods? AFAIK the engine/body have not changed a single bit with model year.

That being said, my experiences with an F150 versus the EPA ratings tell 2 different stories:

* 2017 3.5EB 4x2 was rated 18/25 (21 combined) and I would consistently get >22mpg overall when not towing. It made me think EPA ratings are sandbagged because it was so easy to get better than the rating!

* 2021 PB 4x4 is rated 24/24, and I have never come close to this averaged over a full tank. My best tank EVER has been 21.5mpg and I have tried really hard to optimize. Single trips can beat 24mpg but I absolutely cannot come close to 24/24.

So sadly my 2017 truck got better mileage than my hybrid, but I am not shocked at all to see the '22 spec make a more accurate assessment and drop it to 23mpg.

I believe there was a change in 22 on how the epa handles the different tire options. Maybe that played a part

yep. in slow-n-go freeway traffic at 55 mph, 24+ mpg is possible but not a welcome compromise.
At 75-85+ and don't spare the horses, cold weather or headwinds, it's 12 or 14 and I rationalize that as "no comparable vehicle does better" (at least not so much better than I would take the compromises to be in a diesel for example.)
I certainly wish Ford had put 15 kWh instead of 1.5 and maybe gone to air suspension to be able to snug down to the road at freeway speeds, maybe a way to fold the tow mirrors with small mirrors on the outside edge, and other aero refinements (splitter/diffuser, flat and smooth underbody.)
More importantly, I just slept a night in mine, 15 degrees and snowing overnight at 7000 feet, engine drank a sparrow's spit of fuel in 5+ hours, back on the road again.

My guess is that the 2022 will deliver more horsepower and torque compared to the 2021. Ford needs to take the powerboost from 430 hp and 570 torque to over 439 hp and 583 torque (2022 Tundra Hybrid Specs) to be class leading for 2022.

I don't think I'd upgrade to the fisher price igloo cooler for 9 more hp, LOL
