Howdy from Texas! I'm new to the site and just recently purchased a new 2.7 ecoboost in Space White. I was told the auto start/stop function would save on gas and wear and tear on the engine. My concern is whether this will do more damage than good in the long run? I have a long commute to work, which is why i went with the 2.7 V6 and not interested in getting off the line quickly. Thanks in advance!

Just to prepare you for the inevitable debate that is about to happen:

There are going to be a lot of replies saying this is the dumbest and worst feature ever. Reasons will be "lag" from taking foot off brake to foot on the accelerator (which doesn't sound like a problem for you), potential wear on the starter, potential wear on the battery, or perhaps just that it doesn't feel "right" for a truck. Another valid reason would be that sometimes it will turn off the engine and you will not get proper A/C or heat if you are at a long light. There are people using overrides (an eliminator available on the aftermarket, or Forscan) that will make it so you don't have to press the button to turn it off before every trip. They hate the feature so much they will pay $$ just to do this change from "default ON" to "default OFF". Lastly, the battery chemisty is special, which means replacing it is more expensive, and people believe the feature will wear it out faster.

Arguments "for" are obviously to not have your MPG drop while at long lights, so you can get closer to the EPA rating on the window sticker (that had the auto start/stop built in). Another argument "for" is that the battery is special and therefore it WON'T need replacing sooner because it was built for the feature. Same argument on the starter, it is not a conventional starter, but rather a special one designed for frequent start/stops and not just for cold cranking starts.

So it just comes down to personal philosophy (carbon footprint, noise, "truckiness", fuel costs) and whether or not you trust your gut or the engineering behind the components. I googled both ways to read articles for and against because the replies in threads all seemed so loaded with personal bias it wasn't helping me learn.

Personally? I always loved the feature and trust the engineering behind it was solid, but I HATED that the A/C would turn off at long lights and start to blow hot humid air. For those times, I simply pushed the button. Now I have a powerboost and the A/C continues to work while stopped in fully electric mode.

You will be able to get off the line very quickly if you want to. Don’t be fooled by its diminutive size; the 2.7 punches well above its weight.

The nice thing with the Auto Stop Eliminator device, it still gives you the option. It just makes the override button more useful.

I recently traded in my 2018 Screw and upgraded to a 2021 Screw. On the '18 I unplugged the harness from the controller under the dash behind the brake. Anyone know if that's still an option?
