my truck has 48,000+ miles. Today while driving the errors and warnings started popping up. Relentlessly.

just A sampling of errors that would not stop and when I got home the FordPass app had most of the errors with some information.
1 - service engine soon - the powertrain controls module lost communications with the heater ventilation air conditioning module for a period of time.
2 - power train malfunction/reduced power - system has detected a power train or four-wheel drive fault (I was not in 4 wheel drive)
3 - pre collision assist not available
4 - service engine soon - electrical issue detected that may cause more warnings….
5 - service engine soon - antilock brake control module is sending invalid information
6 - service engine soon - the PCM lost communication with steering control column module.
7 - service engine soon - the PCM lost communication with drivers door controls module.
8 - blind spot detection module received invalid data
9 - SES - the PCM lost communication with image processing module for a period of time
10 - blind spot detection again
11 - antilock brake fault so that disabled itself
12 - SES - PCM lost communication again this time with rear lighting module
there were more but I’ll stop there.

any ideas? This is terrible timing as it is my only tow vehicle for a trip we have in 2 weeks going across the country. My dealer is likely not much help. I have not recieved OTA updates in a year + and every time I go in they ask about FordPass being updated. It’s not an issue with my app on the phone it’s an issue with the F’n truck.

as I’m writing all this I’m wondering if it could be a battery issue? Come to think of it my truck rarely will do the auto stop and I’ve been wondering if maybe that is because the battery doesn’t have enough charge?

any help is appreciated. I’ll need something to go to the dealer with so they don’t try to update my phone again or tell me my tire pressure is low or some other BS.

What's the static parked truck off voltage? Do you have a meter?

My gut says you already have it pegged. :)

Just checked it. Resting and turned off it was 12.4 to 12.5

started Up it is 14.0

not sure if those are good numbers or not…

Those voltage numbers seem normal to me for both at rest and running, but @Snakebitten was correct to start there. It sounds to me like there may be a fault in the CAN bus system that is causing all of the codes in question.

Yea, 12.3+ should be sufficient to keep all healthy modules behaving as designed.

Bummer. I wanted it to be something obvious and easy to address.

Loads of random simultaneous codes could be the GWM. I don't have my bus list in front of me but HVAC / ABS / IPMA losing communication. A power cycle might reset them.

What’s a power cycle reset?

I did stop driving and let it sit for an hour. Went back out and started it up then drove 20 miles of normal operation with no signs of errors. I was thinking it was just a random issue. Then right when I thought I was all set and texted my wife it was good it threw the errors again.

So this was similar to what happened to my 2015 last year.
Was towing my jet skis to the lake and all of a sudden my dash looked like I won the jackpot on the slot machine. Everything was flashing and all o can recall was something about "hill descent" something ....
It ended up being a "new computer" and was a fairly quick turnaround.
Hopefully your service dept can get you in and out quick.
Worse comes to worse Enterprise rents Ford trucks but as I type this I think I recall them locking the hitches...

I would start with the battery, I had so many problems with warnings and systems not working one day and the next fine. My battery voltage was all over the place after sitting overnight. Replaced the battery and the problems went away.

I just took it to the grocery store. A mile and a half away. Nothing for the first mile annd then even new error codes popping up including engine coolant overheating. Not sure that’s possible in a mile and a half drive?

this thing is messed up. Heading to dealership first thing in the morning. I don’t have high hopes given past experiences but maybe they will surprise me.

Hi there, I'd be happy to look into your F-150 concerns on my end. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.

My truck threw almost identical codes except for the engine overheat when the rear axle shaft washer came apart and broke off the ABS sensor. But they never came and went it was on for good.

It does almost sound like either the battery, a complete computer meltdown or perhaps a computer connector that is intermittant or is partially unplugged.
Take the truck to one of the nationwide car parts places like AutoZone, or O'Reilley and have them do a battery load test on it first. The battery could be flakey.

THIS!

Many others have posted similar stories.

It's such an easy place to start, and if the battery is the problem it will make any other troubleshooting a crazy adventure.

update. Sitting at the dealer since Monday. They have been working with ford technical service to figure it out. Doesn’t sound like they are getting anywhere and we are supposed to leave on vacation in 6 days and it’s my tow vehicle.

i have ford extended service plan with premium rental. But the dealership said they can’t do a rental until they have a cause of what is wrong.

at this point I’m now looking at changing our vacation plans. I don’t have a back up tow vehicle for a 5,000 mile round trip.

sure seems like the dealer and Ford could figure this out if they wanted too.
