Yes, for those of us in the Southwest/Southeast keeping the trailer internal temperature below 85F protects the refrigerator. Above 85F my NovaCool 12 volt refrigerator progressively runs out of capacity to cool and stay at set point. Above 95F internal temperature the refrigerator/freezer...
Copy away.
My surprise is that few of the other Airstream owners have followed. Even the ones with PowerBoosts. Somebody just posted a few days ago they are buying a $14,000 Onan generator that goes up into the spare tire wheel well, under the bed in an Airstream. I told the guy to just use...
I have not done it myself but I have seen reports of PPoB running as high as 6.8 kW continuous. No reason it should not be able to support 7.2 kW. The Lightning supports 9.6 kW with PPoB.
I have been testing other bounds of PPoB and the PowerBoost engine. Last week I was in Denver for some...
And that is why am so excited to get the LightShip in a few months. It has a 77 kWh battery and an electric drive motor that could use that wasted regenerative energy. These are interesting times but once you have the capacity to recoup wasted energy, magic things happen.
Actually the cost to Ford is that DC/AC inverter under the truck and the PPoB power panel in the bed. But as I am discovering the bonus, if you use that inverter in motion, is that you are likely harvesting energy that would otherwise be wasted during regeneration because of the small size of...
I have another thread trying to answer this question. The problem is so few people are using PPoB 7.2 in motion there is not a lot of experience. So far I cannot discern any measurable effect on fuel economy to run PPoB. I suspect most of the energy is coming from unused regenerative braking...
Lots of discussion about the relative merits of the PowerBoost F-150 versus other tow vehicle choices. I thought it might be helpful for those trying to make those decisions to post a actual, detailed experience with my PowerBoost towing a 25' Airstream.
This is an actual trip log of a 700 mile...
It is simply amazing to me that anyone can see this as a tough decision if you are buying an F-150. All upside and no downside with the PowerBoost with PPoB 7.2. The bugs are now largely out of the platform. On my 3rd PowerBoost with over 50% of the miles on all of them towing.
But that is where this all gets silly since trailer manufacturers suggest tongue weights between 10% and 15% of the trailer gross weight for stability. 10% is right on the edge of a "light" hitch.
Yes, but the F-150 comes in a wide variety of trims and weights. Drawing the line at 5,000 lbs may be simple but probably is very conservative depending on the F-150 model.
Just reread the 2025 F Series towing Guide. Setting aside the suggestion to use a weight distribution hitch on an F-150 with a trailer above 5,000lbs, does anyone know why the Hitch Receiver Weight Capacity is so restricted when not using a weight distribution hitch? Given the heavy weight of...
If you look closely in the image above you can see the edge of the mini sitting on the aft section of the sunroof just ahead of the topper. Of interest, no bug hits on the mini. And no bug hits on the raised portion of the topper. So the boundary layer air over the sunroof is hitting that topper...
I just completed a round trip from Prescott, AZ to Denver towing my 25', 7,300lb Airstream. On this trip I was testing my new Flated topper.
Here are my trip stats. Many variables to consider. For me, the bottom line using the topper for aerodynamic improvement is that I can cruise at 65 MPH at...
The 2025 Ford Enhanced Diagnostics are now available for download on the OBDLink IOS app. I have not had a chance to see the differences but the new PID's work fine with my 2025 PB running 4.0.
