I detailed my umbilical hookup between the Airstream and the PowerBoost in this long thread over on the Airstream forum. Let me know if you have any questions either here or on the Airstream forum.

Yes, but I would sure like to know what is going on with the PB. Getting energy for free is too good to be true, unless this is just a delightful result of Ford using a battery that is too small.
Thanks for that datapoint. Given such a low fuel flow to generate 6.5 kW it sort of proves my point since one gallon of gas after conversion losses can only make about 10 kW of electricity. In your example fuel flow per hour should have increased at least .6 gph.
Whatever is going on with PPoB...
True but I wonder if anything is being "robbed" from the output to the wheels. My PowerBoost and Airstream is rolling along weighing 14,600 lbs. That is a lot of mass in motion. That traction motor is constantly cycling between using electricity and making electricity even in totally flat...
I just completed a 1,500 mile trip pulling an Airstream Globetrotter with my F-150 PowerBoost with ProPower on Board. The trip was mostly in temperatures up to 103F over the trip in this recent heat wave.
While in motion the F-150 PowerBoost was supplying around 2.3 kW of electricity to the...
Should be at highest kW draw just after startup with lowest thermostat set point dialed in. Just want to compare efficiency to typical RV Dometic 15k BTU air conditioner. I think mine is around 1.6 kW but I will double check.
Yes, that high voltage heat pump represents a considerable load on the battery.
The PowerBoost HEV was designed to achieve a marginal increase in fuel economy. PPoB just came along for the ride. A great idea for an add on. But the F-150 is a pickup that tows things. So much energy is lost that...
Ford limits how much of the 1.5 kWh lithium battery can be used for ProPower on Board or propulsion. Typically only 20% to 30% of the battery is actually available. So anytime continuous loads exceed around .5 kW the engine will run continuously.
I have to admit it is a nice system. Something about the electrical integration between the PowerBoost and Airstream that is so satisfying. Given that the PowerBoost is now well into its 4th year I am surprised someone has not started a business to convert any brand of trailer and a PowerBoost...
.
30K most of the miles towing. No other truck right now that can check all the boxes. Constant towing takes a toll. This 2025 is really nice with all sorts of subtle new features. And it handles a 7,300lb trailer with ease.
I have confirmed in "Tow/Haul" mode depending speed and terrain the high voltage battery can quickly hit the maximum allowable SOC towing a heavy load. Any time that happens regenerative braking stops yielding to friction braking and engine braking. So anytime PPoB is drawing current from the...
I just completed a 3,000 mile grand tour of the Rocky Mountain West from Arizona to the Canadian border with my 2025 PowerBoost with 7.2 PPoB pulling a 2022 25' Electric GlobeTrotter Airstream trailer. During this trip made up of a combination of two lane highways, interstate highways and...
Since we continue to see images of the Ramcharger and the SUV version in the wild being tested we can still expect this to be a delayed, but active new product.
If Ford does not introduce an extend range EV, F series truck in the Fall release to compete with the RamCharger, I will give it a...
I think Tow/Haul mode is the right choice at highway speeds, my comments are about the behavior of the tow/haul setting at speeds below 45 mph in an HEV versus an ICE only truck. It appears much of the efficiency of the HEV system is being lost at low speeds towing a large load. At these speeds...
