The big beautiful bill eliminated penalties associated with the current CAFE standards. Today rule making was announced to eliminate the future requirements of the CAFE standards. So with this change current standards are in effect, but they are now guidelines since there is no penalty not to follow them.

The PowerBoost was largely created to comply with the increasingly restrictive CAFE standards. Will it be the next model cancelled by Ford?

By the time the Gen15 is introduced, there will be a new administration in place anyway, which depending on how that goes, will have the next president re-enacting the standard. You might very well see 2027 and 2028 Gen14's drop the option though.

I hope for the sake of the extra power and the PPOB functionality they keep it. The marginal increase in efficiency wasn't a consideration when I bought mine.

Thank God!

The Powerboost seems to be popular and if demand is there then Ford will keep making them.

If they keep the cadence of the last two generations (Gen 12: 09-14, Gen 13: 15-20), 2026 will be the last model year of Gen 14. I don’t own a Powerboost, but I agree. I’d like to see them take it a step further with a Plug-In version with enough range for the short trips around town (30ish miles). After upgrading our family hauler to a PHEV, I see the value in having some local electric range. An increase in PPoB capacity would be a welcome feature as well.

I’d like to see them implement an electric assist motor (hybrid) with the 2.7 ecoboost motor and gear it more towards fuel economy. The 2.7 ICE Ecoboost nearly matches the current powerboost real world fuel economy now so imagine what it could do with electrification. PHEV vehicles get too heavy and expensive with their larger batteries which is fine for the 70k plus upper trims if they still sell but not very appealing to families that need a more practical vehicle that can do truck stuff. Ford would need to address their abysmal hybrid technology reliability issues first though.

Don’t worry CAFE stands will be back in 3 years if they go away now.
It would require an act of Congress. So while it is possible, it will be difficult.

California has their own standards. Who thinks they will abandoned them because Trump signed an executive order. Not going to happen.

US auto sales YTD are about 9.5% EV, and about 13% hybrid. For F150s, Lightning sales are about 3% and Powerboost about 8%. I'd say hybrid is here to stay. That being said, Stop/Start should be removed entirely from all ICE engines IMO. A terrible idea from the START, FULL STOP!

Like annoying else if it sells Ford will keep building it no matter the standards are. as long as people buy it, its not going anywhere. its a great powertrain option I'd like to see a 2.7 version come out at some point.

I'm curious why you think that. I know its a popular viewpoint but I don't know why.

There is a vid around here somewhere, showing the fuel savings from using start stop and another, with White Papers proving that engine wear happens at load on a cold engine, not at start up so, why?

Battery drain? My Wife's Bronco Sport has it and if the battery is low, it automatically disables SS.
