Stellantis became the parent company of Jeep January 17 2021

The Jeep Wrangler with the 2.0T first appeared for the 2018 year model. (released in 2017)

What am I missing?

Stellantis represents everything that is wrong with the current state of capitalism. (my opinion)

Venture capitalist (and/or private equity) with zero DNA, or even a smidgen of Soul, of the company (industry) that they gobble up and consolidate.

Fiat is a car company, good or bad.
So is Chrysler.
Long and storied automotive histories.
But they aren't owned by a car company. They are now beholden to........ I can't find a term I'm willing to type publicly. ?

As an old geezer who enjoys the machines themselves, I have no beef with the Hurricane engine. In fact, on paper it's intriguing. Real car people designed and built it.
But suits are the ones who decide the if and when, as well as green lighting the necessary resources to do it right. Especially TIME.

Both the Hurricane and the EV version of the Charger show all the signs of underfunded or rushed half-baked to market. They both experienced dismal unveilings to the public reviews and consumers. And it injures the brand unjustly.

And that's just my complaint. These soulless venturists don't give two squats about the brand. Nor do they respect the long game.

Now look how desperate they are for a win. And while I have zero empathy for the suits, I have tons for the many thousands of people over the decades who built the Mopar brand.

Made in Mexico is just hard though. I know it’s mostly in the consumers’ minds but we all check where our F-150s are made and I admit to being pleased my PowerBoost was made in Dearborn ??‍♂

My Mach-E is made in Mexico and it's perhaps the most solid put together Ford I have ever owned.

The Maverick is being built this week. I have no evidence that it's a concern either.

I think it's much like China. (Or almost any other place, including Dearborn) You can manufacture to any spec you aim for.

Also, it seems the specs Stellantis shows for HP and Torque ratings are "combined". That is, the power output for both the V6 petrol burner and the electric motors combined. Even though the V6 only charges the HV batteries and adds ZERO motive power to the platform.

Less than impressed.

I hope it’s a huge success and drives competition, but the longer things drag out the more I think perhaps our PowerBoost was indeed a unicorn.

Is Stellantis sandbagging us? Based on this story both the Ramcharger Extended Range EV (code name "REPB Pilot") and the Hemi "Mild Hybrid" (code name F15 Pilot) prototypes are moving down the line in Sterling Heights with the assembly line to be fully operational by June 15, 2025 (not 2026).

If neither dodge and the ram charger or ford with the missing features on the higher trim powerboost can't get their act together soon, I may well find myself with the 50s mercury convertible instead . . .

hauling classic cars around is really the only truck-thing my wife's Maverick won't do that I need.
