Ford Pass Says Remote Features Being Turned Off to save battery for my 2021 Powerboost King Ranch. I assume this means the battery is on its way to failure. In reviewing other posts I think I will go with a size H8 battery. For convenience I will probably get one from WalMart; the house brand - Everstart or an AC Delco. Thoughts about the existing battery getting ready to abandon me or using an Everstart battery.

H8 will not fit a powerboost truck h7 is the largest size for a powerboost. There could be more reasons your getting this message for example how you drive the truck, outside temp, and if your truck gotten the bms ota update.

When was the last time you drove the truck before the message came up, and for how long was it driven? How cold is it? Any accessories drawing power 24/7 like a dash cam or antitheft tracker wired in direct? You can get this message without the battery being bad, my truck will display it if I’m out of town for a while. That said, if you’ve got nothing drawing power and you drove it 50 miles the day before, then I’d be more concerned. Never hurts to get the battery tested. I should confess 3 years is when I preemptively replace batteries just as a matter of personal preference, but again, this message doesn’t necessarily mean your battery is a problem.

In the Fall weather the message would appear after 4-5 days without driving the truck. Most of the driving will be 30 - 40 miles on the day it is driven. In this cold weather; lows in the 20's with highs around 35 - 40 the message shows up the day after I have driven the truck.

Typically 4 years is when I start looking to replace batteries and was standard in the FAA.
As others here have said there could be other reasons you’re getting this message. My truck was getting it and I can assume it’s due to the fact that I’m retired and don’t drive it much and when I do its typically less than 30 minutes which really doesn’t allow the battery to charge fully. Repeating this eventually will lead to the battery state of charge being below the BMS monitoring threshold. When my truck gave me the second message I disconnected the battery from the truck and trickle charged it for 6hrs. I also did a load check on it after charging it fully and a BMS reset and have had no issues in 2 months. IMHO I would try this before dropping the cash on a new battery.

Had same issue on a 24 Powerboost bought in August after 3.5k miles. Forum said replace battery and move on. Dealer played dumb. Didn’t waste my time bringing it in for them to test, pass and put it in a charger only for the problem to come back. Dropped $300 on Napa battery, 10 min to swap out and reset BMS. Back to new.

Don't forget, replace that Aux battery under the rear passenger seat as well. When one goes bad, typically the other running in a switched parallel circuit is also not great.

I have a 21 Platty and I am on my 3 rd OEM battery.
The mechanic at Ford found a TSB for the battery module. He thinks that is why the battery’s keep on failing . Anyway I have an H6 battery and will replace the next battery with an H7 Motorcraft. A side note all of my battery’s were replaced under warantee for free.
Good luck

This was the issue with mine. I first got the low battery warning (OEM battery) after leaving it parked for 2 months. It seemed to go away for a while (I know now it was because I was driving it frequently over 30 mins), but then started up again (when I stopped driving it as much). I assumed the battery was going so I replaced the OEM battery with a new H7. Worked fine for a couple of weeks then recurred. Took it to the dealer and they found that the Aux battery was dead. Replaced it and it seems like the OEM battery is now more or less OK (i.e. charging rapidly enough when driven to replace most - not all - of the lost charge from overnight.

My thoughts in retrospect:
1. may not have been the OEM battery but I don't mind prophylactically changing it at 3.5 years
2. Aux battery. I could have checked it myself and replaced it. Hennessey Ford in Atlanta charged me $168 for that. Still not that bad.
3. Since I'm retired I'm only driving it about every other day, and only for short trips so I put it on a good tender occasionally.

You didn't need to disconnect the battery did you?

I've been getting the Ford Pass message a bit too, so was thinking of hooking mine up to my trickle charger...but was planning on leaving everything hooked up. That's not going to mess anything up right?

I disconnected mine bc I was doing a load test and wanted to see how the battery did stand alone. Charging with it connected should not cause any harm. I was also adding ambient lighting cupholders and needed to access BCM connectors. A little multitasking and giving in to my OCD.

That's right. Just hook it up with the battery connected. Make sure you DO NOT connect the neg lead to the battery terminal. It has to be behind the BMS. See the video below. The thread below is long but worth the read on this issue if you only drive your truck for short trips and let it sit for periods of time.

See this video. Explains it all:

Also, this thread, which is a treasure trove of info on this. https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/thr...operly-charge-how-to-power-accessories.13862/

Thanks for the video, very informative. It does sound like you could charge it the ”normal” way, but it would just take the system a while to update its self regarding the new status of the battery. Having said that, I plan on doing the charging as recommended….behind the BMS sensor.

It’s gotten real cold here recently, and I do a lot of short trips, so I am having the issues. It sucks to walk into a dark garage…not have the ”welcome“ lights light up, or even the interior dome lights go on. She’s starting up fine, but those other battering saving measures are no fun.

Looks like I will need another trickle charger for the truck now.

Do the BMS reset procedure and the alerts will stop after charge.
