Im coming up on 75k miles soon and want to get a plan to get the filter and fuild changed. Seems with all the cooling lines its a bit more of a pain than a regular ecoboost. Anyone done this themselves or taken it somewhere else besides the dealer?

My dealer sucks, 6-weeks out from day you drop it off. I cant go 6-weeks without a truck for basic service items just to get in line.

Get a firm quote before you drop it off. I had my first flush/filter at 35k miles while they were also replacing the front diff, and got charged for remounting the transmission. Once I get done with this latest bout of East Texas Trucking Simulator, I am gonna get the fluid changed again and I will ask them to tell me exactly how much beforehand.

My local dealerships can't even change my oil without over torquing the filter or drain plug. I would not trust them to do this type of job properly. My plan is to find a transmission speciality shop that has already done this for many 10R80 transmissions and hopefully even a Powerboost (Powerboost just has two extra rubber tubes to keep track of and replace) and from what I am seeing, I can expect to be paying at least $600 to get it done.

I've had my PB Transmission oil & filter changed 5 times. My dealer cost was ~$150, filter (which is pricey itself), 5 qts transmission fluid, and labor. Given the difficulties associated with the job (as compared to the 92 Suburban I spent years changing myself), I consider that a decent price. Any dealer charging more is scamming you. Also note that the PB transmission filter is different than other 10R80 transmissions because of the electric motor/generator that is also part if the transmission making it longer.

I have moved on from doing fluid changes and brakes etc., so it is far from comforting to think my Ford service department can’t do their job properly. ?

Yea I’m with you @Samson16 I don’t do much myself either but do try to use independent shops. Dealers around me just seem to be overwhelmed.

Odd. My dealer is busy too, but I just make an appointment for six weeks out and drop the truck off on the day of the appointment.

If your dealer won't be working on your truck for six weeks why do they have to have it on their lot? Where do they even store six weeks worth of pending service vehicles??? That would probably be a thousand or more vehicles at my dealer.

There might be some miscommunication going on here.

that price is actually about spot on. If you do it yourself you’re looking at about 30 bucks for the fluid. It’s gonna take at least an hour. Dealer shop rate is generally at least $100+ an hour.
if you can find a dealer, you trust, that aren’t a bunch of freaking blooming. Idiots, that’s a decent price.

When it comes time to do it, I’ll be doing it myself. The later model transmissions without the cooler to front makes it quite a bit easier. The key point is to have two of the new transfer to rubbers, many people don’t get those.

I've moved on doing it for others but doing your own wrenching can be therapeutic in a way.

Absolutely! My driveway is freshly redone and my garage is a home office. When you come over park in the street unless you’re confident your car won’t leave a mess lol. I will relax eventually but not just yet.

That's a shitty use for a garage! Need more garage, not more office, add on to the back for that office shit! I'd reevaluate the need for a dinner table before i'd screw up the garage. :ROFLMAO:

If they made me drop of the truck and keep it for six weeks then I would tell the dealership to pay a month and a half on my loan lol

I am so fortunate to have a great dealer close by ... customer service is really good too. I recently had an oil change and questioned if the transmission slip might be low oil level and could they check. They did, it was low about one half a quart ... service manager told me the guy who did the transmission service originally will be dinged and retrained as they make the service people be completely responsible for good and bad work ... I thought that was good.
