I just found out I'm eligible for x plan pricing. Generally speaking, where are those prices relative to invoice price, and/or msrp?

No Ford trucks yet (Current tow vehicle Volvo 780)
X-plan is slightly under invoice (0.4% under with a $375 admin fee added), but Ford limits dealer doc fees to $300, which can be a real savings.

Cool, thanks. I'd have to go into work to get that, but I may do that.

X-Plan is fixed price.
4% over A Plan plus $150.

Once you say you are using X-Plan there is zero negotiating. You cannot get lower price.

I used it 20 years ago, but even then I could have got the same vehicle at invoice price and paid less money. I just didn't know about how the system worked then.

Every state there should be a dealer that will sell to you at invoice. Some will go below invoice, like Granger. For me if I was buying new I would just buy it locally. The travel cost to and from Granger eats up the discount under invoice.

Check locally you might find a dealer to match them. I'm sure they have a reputation in that area.

x plan can be your friend
i use it ALOT
however ...... my recent buy on the explorer was under X plan by much dinero
and once you say to a dealer I HAVE x plan, they will stop working a lower price
but some will try to max the trade or min the trade
if your in a shady area...search, find the vehicle you want then go see them and ask about x plan
dealers are not required to use it. but most will except in COVID

I mentioned the MCA eligibility for x-plan at my last mustang club meeting, and someone pointed out that at least four members, including himself, were retired Ford employees eligible for a couple of X's a year that they could share.

As for myself, granger is most of the way to my grandkids, so . . . (and maybe pick up an engine for my Miata in Texas on the way back!)

That may depend on the state. I took 4 months (I'm retired) and contacted every Ford dealer in AZ about ordering my truck. Jones Ford in Wickenburg came within $4,000 of Granger. Some dealers wanted $10,000+ for the same truck. I flew into Des Moines and drove home for around $1,000.

X-plan caps the fees. If you live in a state with a bunch of add ons and doc fees you can save hundreds.

This is not X-Plan related but I do want to highlight the benefit of buying from a good dealer at a good price and then payong for shipping.
When we were looking for a trailer we shopped every local and even regional dealer for a Cherokee 39sr. (This was pre-Biden economy).
Everyone seemed to be sticking pretty close to MSRP.
I found a trailer back in Pennsylvania and use a brokerage company called UShip.com and had it brought to my house in Washington State.
When all was said and done after shipping and everything I ended up saving about $6,800.
My next purchase will probably be an explorer for my wife and if I do stick with a Ford product I will buy from Granger and have it shipped out to us in idaho.
I can't stand any of the local Ford dealerships and because of their service departments I'm contemplating not even buying Ford this go round.
But that's neither here nor there. The gist of this stupid long post is if you can find a dealer that gives you a really good price regardless of where it's at, it might be worth it to pay for the shipping.

It might be, but consider it carefully. There's on guy on here that got a great price from a dealer far away and received a pile of crap. The ENTIRE VEHICLE will need to be repainted to make just that part of the problem right, and both ford and the dealer in question are not buying the vehicle back. I mean, Ray Charles would have noticed the stuff wrong that both ford and the dealer in question sent out like it was no big deal. I promise you, this guy would have come out WAY better buying in person from the highest priced local dealer he could find. Now, this is FAR from the norm in this situation, but I said this to just remind you that it doesn't absolutely always work out to buy cheap from afar, and when it doesn't, BOY it doesn't!
