I didn't fully understand this; can you elaborate?
Absolutely. The factory tune uses a ton of different torque, pressure, and spark limits to control how much power the engine makes under various conditions. Some of these limits almost always apply, but others only apply in very specific scenarios.

In general the overall torque limit for the engine at 2500RPM is 456 lb-ft as seen below:

Ford F-150 Ford Performance tune for 3.5's coming (It's here!) 44786

If both the accelerator pedal and brake pedal are pressed at the same time a new torque limit kicks in, this is the dual foot limit and it severely limits engine torque. At 2581RPM it only allows for 267.5 lb-ft, this is calculated by splitting the difference between the limits at 1475RPM and 3688RPM. The torque limit at 3688RPM is only 92 lb-ft as seen below:

Ford F-150 Ford Performance tune for 3.5's coming (It's here!) 20919

When I want to launch my truck hard, I stand on the brake pedal and hit the accelerator pedal so that I can build boost before launching to get off the line faster. How much boost I can build and how high the RPMs get depend on how high or low the dual foot torque limit is set.

If the limit is set too low, I won't be able to build much boost and I won't be able to launch at a high engine RPM. If this limit is set way too high and essentially turned off, the only limit is what the truck will physically allow before something breaks or you're unable to keep the truck from pushing through the brakes and moving.

Launching in 4A with street tires, 300 lb-ft and 2500RPM seems to be the sweet spot for my truck. Doing this I hit 455 lb-ft by 3000RPM and 540 lb-ft by 3500RPM as the boost continues to build in 1st gear. I don't hit full boost until right around 4000RPM in 1st gear and at that point I'm making about 585 lb-ft of torque.

If I ran slicks at a drag strip, I might try launching at 400 lb-ft which would put the engine RPM considerably higher than 2500RPM.

TFL dropped a video on YouTube today of the Ranger Raptor with a similar factory tune upgrade and the results were promising. Roughly half a second improvement in the quarter mile and 0-60.
I think the FP tune is going to allow for around 5.0 to 60 and around 13.1 or so. Basically what you're seeing with the HO Ram (standard Ram is about the same as 3.5 Ford).

If they gave us the Raptor FP tune I'd be inclined as a conservative tune. Maybe the Whipple tune is the way to go for something a little more aggressive. I don't want to push it to 11 and break things.

Supposedly a forum member called and discussed the warranty confusion. They were told that the website verbiage wasn't properly vetted and was wrong. And to expect to see it cleaned up immediately.

I don't know if I can trust the verbal claims until it is at least confirmed by a second inquiry?

They updated the picture. It used to show going from stock to what they're offering for the Raptor FP tune. Now it goes from stock, to stock Raptor.

I'm hoping I can do this and keep my extended warranty. My local ford dealer can't seem to answer that question though.

That's the exact question that the fella asked the Ford Performance personnel on the phone. The FP rep was surprised that the website had information implying that the factory warranty or extended warranty would be voided by the calibration. He then supposedly verified the website information and said it was inaccurate and that it would be changed accordingly.

Could be true. All of it. But I'm looking for a second and third verification from a couple of more folks? :)

In the hopes that they're going to bring it to the bestest powertrain ever put into the 150?

They could start by delivering the full torque it's capable of for a start

I put the FPT in my MY22 Ranger 2.3L and it made a day and night difference.

Also liked it maintained the factory warranty.

Hopefully they'll come out with something for the Powerboost.

Raptor guys maintaining their feels-good confirmed :cwl:

$645 here -- never heard of them though - wants $25 for shipping, should be $10

The REAL question is this...do we believe this new graph or is it JUST to save face for the Raptor Bros? haha

Or was it mistake from the beginning. I mean i wish i had some friends with dynos but i'm damn sure not gonna go pay for one either at the moment b/c i need some roof work done haha

I ended up getting my tune from Stage 3 and they said they should have their shipment in any day now.

i think the 50hp and 10tq is kinda crap though if thats what it ends up despite the tq coming on sooner.

I imagine nobody knows better than Ford just what the real limits to the 10r80 MHT is. And whatever the warranty-able limit is, there can't be a lot of torque headroom left for the Powerboost?

I'm convinced Ford already gimped the Powerboost as it is, just to leave the headroom they wanted to be there. Or put another way, it wasn't even a tiny challenge for Ford to have more Horsepower and/or Torque than what they limited it to.

I mean the aftermarket tuners are just now beginning tickle the electric side and doesn't it look like they are finding it very conservatively taxed with the OEM calibration?

You have to realize a stock production truck has to run on hot dog water 87 octane from the local convenience store. No way will they put the tuning on the ragged edge and give you all it's capabilities.

Very true.
But the engine management on the 3.5 Ecoboost is far from dumb or blind. So Ford could, if they wanted to, dial it up some.
I personally believe Ford arbitrarily determines what they desire the power output to be. No different than they do with things like Payload capacity.

If they had a meeting tomorrow and decided they want to raise the HP output by 15HP and the Payload by 75 Lbs on the 2025, they could do so without doing much more than sending the new brochures to the printer and telling the calibration team to edit a couple of parameters/tables.

Or put another way, Ford knows more about tuning the 3.5 Ecoboost than the aftermarket gurus ever will. But they have a completely different agenda, along with that pesky Ole thing called factory warranty. Lol

That's what I'm wondering as well. I think I would pass if it was just 10lbft of torque.

I really wonder if the raptor uses the same Ecoboost as the rest of the lineup since 2021. I know the previous gen had different compression ratios and different turbos but I cannot find anything on the new ones

Do factory tunes add to their vulnerability when idiots get the tune then run into things and hurt people?
