Just wondering why it’s so hard to just hold foot on break. All these features making drivers lazy.
Couldn't agree more. Combination of laziness and complacency. Then you get into a vehicle without these features and need to remember you don't have these crutches to rely on.

To each their own, but this is another unnecessary thing they came up with.

Slapsticking....
I stopped as instructed at the car wash and shifted to neutral. I didn't realize until today that I had removed my foot from the brakes before shifting. Whatever slapshifting is I didn't do that. I did what what your quote from the manual warned against.

Don't fret. We can both be right.

This logic is illogical regarding auto hold. If I don't have auto hold and rent a car that has it, how is it a crutch I don't know I have?

Your logic is logical when it comes to adaptive cruise control. If you are accustomed to ACC and rent a car without it, this is a potential danger from "laziness and complacency, and crutches to rely on". Are you saying we shouldn't have adaptive cruise control? Your logic sounds like it. I don't agree with this logic.

I do think that rental cars should have a warning in them that the vehicle is not ACC equipped. A lazy and complacent ACC driver could attribute this ignorance to rear ending someone. If I had a rental car company, I would equip all of my cars with ACC specifically for those "lazy and complacent" drivers. I'd go the whole 9 yards and get auto hold too if available from the manufacturer.

Dear Mr. Spock, it's not illogical regarding reantal cars. Any vehicle you drive with it, even for a short period of time can get you accustomed to it. Then you get back in yours and issues could arise.

Nothing wrong with just keeping your foot on the brake. It tells me you're paying attention to your vehicle and traffic conditions.

Probably just another piece of telemetry they can send to your insurance company in our ever-increasing Big Brother society. But I digress...

Don't like it and had it disabled as soon as I could. I prefer to control/feather the brake as needed to crawl. And im never at a stop light so long that my leg starts cramping, lol!

I tried it when I first got my Limited for maybe a day or two. Quickly found that the gas pedal pressure to release the auto hold would cause the truck to lurch forward suddenly. Almost hit a vehicle in front of me in stop and go traffic. Yea, not for me.

I suspect the folks that like it off must also be the one's who slowly creep forward the 5 car lengths they stopped short of at traffic lights.
Wrong. More like the other way around. Stop with auto hold on so they can play with texting and not worry about lifting off the brake.

I have no disrespect for those who use it, but I don't. That's mostly because I'm one of those unusual people that likes auto start-stop. (No disrespect, please.) The reason I don't like auto-hold is because I've learned that ASS is cancelled when you take your foot off the brake.

I don't like the jerky start from ASS if you're the first in line at a red light and your engine has to start before you move. It's much smoother, and natural, to just take your foot off the brake a second before you want to move, without stepping on the gas.

How do you set it up like this? I was using the auto hold for a while but decided to stop using it because I don't want to have to go search for it to turn it off when needed. I also wonder how it would work if driving in the ice and slamming on the brake pedal while in drive due to sliding on ice. Will the truck know to enable the ABS vs trying to auto hold the brakes?
The way I have mine set up is using the FAV button along the bottom of the screen. I believe it is located between Nav and Apps. If you press and hold that button, you will get a menu. Select the Driver Assistance choice. Now, when you see that button, it will say Driver Assistance. Just press that button and you will see the Auto Hold as the first item. You can toggle it off and on. It makes it easy to turn it off and on as needed for automatic car washes etc.

I hope this helps you get it set up.

I have mine turned off. However, when I feel I need that feature, I used the parking brake.
Can you put the parking brake on, leave the vehicle in drive, and lift your foot off the brake without having the engine working against the mechanical braking system?

In stop-start traffic, if you have ACC with stop&go, auto-hold is redundant. Even if ACC isn't on yet, while stopped, turn it on and wait for the "stopped" message. While twiddling thumbs, and still stopped, set any speed for ACC and hit resume when traffic moves; simples.

Hill start assist takes care of ups and downs. I simply don't have a need for auto-hold as per my original comment.

Some don't know this tip: with ACC on (maybe normal cruise as well) holding set+ or set- down moves set speed by 10kph (don't know how much in arcane units) ?

Besides cruise control and backup sensors, I've always been against drivers assistance and prefer to rely on myself. That being said, I have this feature turned on and very much like it. I've gotten used to lightly tapping the accelerator to disable it, and then taking off as normal. The only time I turn it off now is when I'm off-roading. Low speeds making my way over rocks when I'm using the gas and brake at the same time.

Like others have mentioned, wish it had a physical button that was easily accessible. I have it turned off for that reason.
