I appreciate the different perspective.

What did you like better about your Ram ownership experience?

Do you think you’d be happier with a different F-150 configuration?

They are both nice trucks, but I wouldn't buy a Ram with the belief that I was going to have a more reliable product past 200K miles.

Personally, I don't shop payment, I shop equity. And I can almost guarantee that you will end up making more payments, and therefore spending more money long term, than you would just keeping what you have. That money, likely thousands, can be used to make a lot of repairs someday. Can you even come close to the same interest rate today as your truck bought 1.5 years ago has?

Also, everyone claims they want to 'keep this one forever' but no one ever does. You'll have money burning a hole in your pocket someday and something new and shiny will catch your eye. You'll justify the purchase for better mpg or some new feature, because we all do.

How many vehicles even make it to old age without getting totaled, stolen, flooded or otherwise damaged beyond repair anyways? Not many I guess.

My advice, never try to save hypothetical money in the future by spending real money today.

You are right. I got a nice truck and should just enjoy it. If I encounter reliability issues in the future, I’ll either make the call to keep it and pay for the repairs or get something else. I’ll pay more overall by getting something else right now and there’s no guarantee it will be more reliable in the long term. I need to stop looking at vehicles in my spare time. Bad habit. Maybe I should start sewing

2024 F-150 Delivered 7/15/2024
I started off wanting a 2024 Ram Limited when they the manufacturer was giving 10% plus dealer discount. Test drove one and it was fabulous. Dealer called me back and I test drove another. The salesman let me drive very aggressively in a Lowe’s parking lot. It was amazing at handling. I looked up the JD Powers ratings - Ram was only 1 point higher than Chevy but looking into the details - Ram quality was significantly higher than Chevy in quality alone but fell many points because of dealerships ratings. My dealer was a jerk, so it never happened.

Went to Chevy and test drove an LTZ when they were having their promotions. it had tremendous body lean but was told that was normal for a truck (my first full size). You get much more from Chevy than Ford for the same money. But again the dealer, add-ons of $700 for coatings, low ball on trade-in even though they guaranteed in writing the night before and outrageous registration fees.

So I went to Ford to test drive a PB. It definitely does not drive as nice as Ram but I would put it at 95% as nice a ride as Ram. Which really surprised me. So i bought a Lariat from Granger 15 days ago and have 2,300 miles on it. So far, and I hope I don’t jinx myself, it’s been great.

I think you should get what you really want. Just be aware that a 2023 will have significantly less resale value now that the 2025s are out. Good luck.

I already gave my 2c on the ram else where, but in summary;

pros:
  1. better trans
  2. cheaper
  3. adjustable air suspension was pretty trick
  4. best handling of any truck ever
Cons:
1. braking is way worse
  1. the sheet metal is not nice, but neither is fords aluminum.
  2. I actually hate the curvey design language both inside and out
  3. I would say the leather is thicker, but not even close to as nice as the lariat brown leather.
  4. the 5.7 is very droney and not that powerful
  5. the efficiency of the 5.7 etorque I tested was actually significantly less than the similar 5.0 I tested.
  6. small tank
  7. crap paint and windshields...seriously. big difference.
  8. the wheel quality on these rams tends to be lacking.
  9. less payload generally.
  10. I really dont like the hurricane 6

I actually test drove a Long Horn a few weeks ago after I sold my 2022 Lariat. Man, these Ford trucks spoil you is all I can say. A lot of small things like auto folding mirrors, steering wheel position auto adjustment, cooled seats (front and rear) are awesome features on the F150 Lariat that were missing from this (see below) $62,000 MSRP RAM I test drove. Gas mileage was the only thing I gave to the RAM and a very smooth ride...trans seemed to shift better too. I think it had an 8 speed. That portrait setup center IPAD might take a little to get used to. I don't know how the Laramie is setup but those were my quick thoughts on the RAM. I wouldn't buy it at that $62k price point. Mid 40's, maybe! It was a great looking truck though. I just didn't like the price. It was a step down from my old Lariat at a higher sticker. No wonder they have markdown sales! That's what got me into the dealership in the first place, so I don't blame you. Go out there and test drive.

BTW, this was the Hurricane powered I6 TT one.

I’ve never driven a Ram before. The one I’m looking at is MSRP 70,195 and listed online for 51,995. Just debating whether or not I should check one out in person. So far I’m just leaning towards keeping my F-150 and dropping the idea because I’m pretty happy with it.

Go test drive one. If they are offering great incentives and financing, go for it if you like it as long as you don't have negative equity in your truck. I liked driving it. I just didn't like the price they were selling it for. Coming from a 502A Lariat, it was a hard pass for me.

Those are huge factors. Hypothetically, if I wasn’t offered the right trade in value I wouldn’t even consider it. Also the rates look pretty bad right now, so that also makes me hesitate quite a bit.

There is also a 3.5 EB 502A Lariat in my area that is marked about 14,000 below msrp and if interest rates drop, I would consider going after it. The rates are just too high right now .

Super high. I decided to buy a used (cheap) car. I will be ready to order that 15th gen in 26/27 as long as it doesn't look like ass. :D

1 - Visit a Ram message board like this F150 board and see what Ram owners are saying.

2 - If the Hemi is being discontinued might that make repairing that engine more expensive in the future?

3 - I've always heard that Dodge transmissions suck. Maybe they changed for the better.

I knew with Ram I did not want an etorque equipped engine as repairs are quite expensive, as in a couple thousand dollars. The Ram V-8 was the only such engine.

I also did not want to pay $2,000 for their special tailgate with the required packages. Ram does have the 33-gallon gas tank as an option for some models so close to the range of the Ford with the 36-gal gas tank - if you can find one. Ford dealers were ordering trucks with the tow package and max tow package and not specifying the large gas tank.

Ram changes its model equipment quite a bit year to year. The 2024 Rebel has fewer options than the 2022 model I looked at when considering a Ram 4WD at that time.

Even if your trade-in covers the cost of the new truck you will still be paying sales tax and DMV fees on the price for the new truck and having to absorb the cost of these fees in 2023. To me that is a lot of money to toss away.

You are right. I got a nice truck and should just enjoy it.
But if you are asking the question then you aren’t really enjoying it. You want the Laramie interior and Katzkins just won’t get the XLT there for you. If you are asking the decision is made.

I love my 302A PB and wouldn’t consider trading it in on a Ram if the seats had 24k gold stitching. That’s when your sure.

Edit: Now a Ramcharger with gold stitching? ?

I drove several trucks including a Ram Limited.

For me in a state of salt, snow, etc. It boiled down to the aluminum body and resale value.
