You are right. I got a nice truck and should just enjoy it. If I encounter reliability issues in the future, I’ll either make the call to keep it and pay for the repairs or get something else. I’ll pay more overall by getting something else right now and there’s no guarantee it will be more reliable in the long term. I need to stop looking at vehicles in my spare time. Bad habit. Maybe I should start sewingThey are both nice trucks, but I wouldn't buy a Ram with the belief that I was going to have a more reliable product past 200K miles.
Personally, I don't shop payment, I shop equity. And I can almost guarantee that you will end up making more payments, and therefore spending more money long term, than you would just keeping what you have. That money, likely thousands, can be used to make a lot of repairs someday. Can you even come close to the same interest rate today as your truck bought 1.5 years ago has?
Also, everyone claims they want to 'keep this one forever' but no one ever does. You'll have money burning a hole in your pocket someday and something new and shiny will catch your eye. You'll justify the purchase for better mpg or some new feature, because we all do.
How many vehicles even make it to old age without getting totaled, stolen, flooded or otherwise damaged beyond repair anyways? Not many I guess.
My advice, never try to save hypothetical money in the future by spending real money today.
I’ve never driven a Ram before. The one I’m looking at is MSRP 70,195 and listed online for 51,995. Just debating whether or not I should check one out in person. So far I’m just leaning towards keeping my F-150 and dropping the idea because I’m pretty happy with it.I actually test drove a long horn a few weeks ago after I sold my 2022 Lariat. Man, these Ford trucks spoil you is all I can say. A lot of small thins like auto folding mirrors, steering wheel position auto adjustment, cooled seats (front and rear) are awesome features on the F150 Lariat that were missing from that $62,000 MSRP RAM I drove. Gas mileage was the only thing I gave to the RAM and a very smooth ride...trans seemed to shift better too. I think it had an 8 speed. That portrait setup center IPAD might take a little to get used to. I don't know how the Laramie is setup but those were my quick thoughts on the RAM. I wouldn't buy it at that $62k price point. Mid 40's, maybe!
Those are huge factors. Hypothetically, if I wasn’t offered the right trade in value I wouldn’t even consider it. Also the rates look pretty bad right now, so that also makes me hesitate quite a bit.Go test drive one. If they are offering great incentives and financing, go for it if you like it as long as you don't have negative equity in your truck. I liked driving it. I just didn't like the price they were selling it for. Coming from a 502A Lariat, it was a hard pass for me.
But if you are asking the question then you aren’t really enjoying it. You want the Laramie interior and Katzkins just won’t get the XLT there for you. If you are asking the decision is made. You are right. I got a nice truck and should just enjoy it.
