Ford Performance Tremor Skid Plate Kit install... Done!

Today I finished installing this kit on my Rattler. No real surprises but it did take most of the day. If you're mechanically inclined the instructions found online from Ford will work. The grill and bumper have to come off. The mounts on the inside of the bumper have to be removed and the fog lights if you have them. This is so you can remove and install stuff on the bumper. Overall not a bad job and I really like how it looks. Now I don't have to worry about tearing off that air dam.

Mine is done too. I painted the bumper cover to match. Wondering if black would be better. Red hooks to come..

Yes, the proper way to dead head the active air dam electrical connectors. Listed here from Mouser Electronics

Was this a simple plug and done fix? I left my motors on for now so it would just throw the soft code for blocked motion. Instead of the engine code for not detecting

I put some dielectric grease on the connectors and plugged the blanks on and haven’t had any issues. I still have a soft code that I can see with FORScan but it doesn’t seem to matter.

I didn’t bother with plugs and just removed the whole assemble. No codes.

Yeah mine for some reason had the check engine light come on when I removed them. Right now they are on and I trimmed them up to where they don’t come down except touching edges of skid plate. Throws a soft code you can’t see unless you hooked in but no check engine light

I probably misused the word code there since I’m not using any scan tools. But yeah I didn’t get any kind of check engine or warning indications.

My truck is one of the lucky Job 1 trucks - built April 2021. ML34 is the frame prefix on my truck in case others want to check theirs.

Got around to install the skid plate today and it worked very well. Followed the instructions and the truck is rolling with a new style.

Very happy with the upgrade! Also installed the illuminated Ford logo while I was there.

The Ford Performance instructions made no mention of changes to the PCM so I didn't worry about it.

With air dams disconnected there are no engine lights activated due to that. No Worries just plug off the ends so they don't fill with stuff and corrod.

It's about a half day job. Only thing you have to worry about is measuring the space on the frame to ensure that the kit works with your truck. Everything works out like a charm

For those of you that have painted the plastic bumper piece and/or the skid plate itself, how are you doing it? Going to a body shop to get it professionally done or using some other products? I'm thinking I will be getting mine powder coated black but then I wonder how well that would match the black paint to match plastic bumper piece.

I used Rustoleum Truck Bed Coating on both the plastic bumper piece and the skid plate itself to match. My truck is Leadfoot with the sport package and I've deleted all of the chrome & silver off the truck minus the lights so silver would have looked out of place. It does kind of disappear, but I'd rather have that to match my truck's theme than a bunch of out of place silver under there. My FX4 skid plate is silver but you can't see it unless you're under the truck.

Will the Ford performance Tremor skid plate kit work on my truck after installing a custom skid plate to replace the felt under-cover that comes from the factory? See attached pics. It covers my oil pan and transmission. It also covers the cat so they aren't so easy to steal. Thanks.

It's not as textured as say a Line-X or Rhino lining but does have some texture to it. I wanted something tougher than paint that would be easy to just re-spray on if it gets scuffed up. Stuff is kind of expensive @ $17 a can but still way cheaper than having to sand & repaint.

It won't touch that skid plate at all. There is another felt liner or skid plate if you have the FX4 package in between them. You can see the silver FX4 skid plate between the Tremor skid plate up front and the Raptor skid plate I have where your talons skid plate is.

That's good to know. I'll order the Tremor skid plate. It looks so much better than the airdam - and appears to provide better clearance.
