I placed the holes in the correct locations for a 21 F150. A 21 F150 which has park assist has 6 sensors in the front instead of 4. The 4 on the front will be the same with one more on each side as well. The way you are describing the bumper you are looking at, it sounds like they may have changed the layout in order to reduce the amount of sensors required for the park assist version.
Question for you: after installing the wire harness there are 2 connectors next to the main disconnect that are not plugged into anything. Is that expected? I have a 21 Lariat 5.0.

Those two connections are for the front air louver and the pedestrian alert speaker. Your vehicle does not have the pedestrian alert speaker (Powerboost Only) but i would have thought yours would have the air louver connection.

If it’s not plugged into the air louver, do you think they won’t work? We’ve got it installed and made changes to FORscan but they’re not working.

Post a pic please so I can make sure we are talking about the same connections. If the 5.0 does not have active air louvers, then not connecting them shouldn’t impact whether the sensors work or not. My concern would be that your wiring harness which runs back from that connection point to the APIM does not have the wiring strands to bring the connection all the way back, or that your current APIM does not have the ability to recognize the front parking sensors. If those reasons are why it is not working, then you are beyond my knowledge.

I know Jesse ended up running separate wires all the way back to the APIM as well as upgrading the APIM itself in his truck.

So I just completed the mod and got everything out back together. The only thing I haven’t had time to do is make ForScan updates.
I started it as I was eager to see how everything looked and. Are sure I didn’t have any errors.

I do. It’s first started by saying:
- “full accessory power mode” and not allowing me to start it fully
- check engine light on
- Pre-Collision Assist Not Available
- Pedestrian Sounder Fault Service Now

Can you post your forscan changes?

Is your primary connection seated fully? It sounds like the wiring harness for those connections is not connected all the way as the pedestrian speaker and front adaptive cruise control radar are both down stream from that connection. When I did mine, those all still worked. The only thing I had to change was the forscan settings to have the truck know the front proximity sensors were there.

thanks, I will check that and let you guys know what I find.
On a side note I ordered the harness specified above and it came with 2 additional connectors that I did not originally have in my setup (and of course the proximity sensors… but I was expecting that). Do you know what they may go to and if not having them connected to anything will cause an issue?

Collision warning solved: bonehead mistake, I didn’t move the radar from the other bumper over to the new one ?‍♂

pedestrian alarm I still can’t figure out what’s causing that light to be on.
If I do the pedestrian alarm bypass in ForScan will it make this light go away or is there something else I should check out?

also there are 2 connections that don’t have anything to plug into, my plan is to tape these off and secure them. Want to make sure that’s the right call.

Thanks!

The connection you have pictured runs to the active louver to the engine. Attached is a picture of where that connection went to on mine.

I took several more pictures to help show where the cabling harness runs for the front sensors. All of my descriptions below stating either “right” or “left” is based upon a person standing in front of and looking at the front of the vehicle.

The below pic is the first connection point, after the main connection, along the new front bumper wiring harness which runs to the active air louver. It is a pain to reach down to and can easily be missed.

Ford F-150 Adding Forward Sensing System - 2021 King Ranch w/601A IMG_0651

This picture is the second connection point, after the main connection, which runs to a separate “small” wiring harness which ultimately connects to the pedestrian speaker for the PowerBoost. It is not applicable to a non-PowerBoost vehicle. I am not sure if there is a different wiring harness (w/different part number) for a non-PowerBoost F150.

Similar picture as above but a little further away from vehicle.

Ford F-150 Adding Forward Sensing System - 2021 King Ranch w/601A IMG_0654

Below is where the pedestrian alert speaker used to be mounted behind the right side of the bumper, next to the active air louver. I installed a pedestrian speaker bypass and removed the speaker before i ever installed the front sensors.

Ford F-150 Adding Forward Sensing System - 2021 King Ranch w/601A IMG_0663

The below picture is of the connections on the backside of the right side of the bumper. There is a connection, at the very end of the new wiring harness, which is not used. I wrapped/sealed that connection. My original wiring harness had a similar unused connection. Not using this connection did not result in a DLC.

The below picture is of the pedestrian speaker bypass i purchased when they were originally offered. There are newer versions available which look more professional.

Ford F-150 Adding Forward Sensing System - 2021 King Ranch w/601A IMG_0664

The below picture is of the pedestrian alert speaker that i removed from the bracket behind the right side of the bumper. I was not able to remove the bracket itself though as i would have had to take more of the vehicle apart to do so and simply did not wish to spend the effort.

The below picture is the connection point behind the right side of the front bumper and shows the new wiring harness connecting to the shorter wiring harness which subsequently leads down to the pedestrian alert speaker connection point.

The below picture is the backside of the left side of the front bumper. It also had an unused connection which i taped off/sealed. Not using that connection did not result in a DLC.

Another picture of the backside of the right side of the bumper. Immediately behind the metal bracket is the front adaptive cruise control and collision radar sensor.

Just a sanity check here as I am going to be putting in the CCM and harness anyway so wanted to grab sensors and mounts at the same time.

I'm seeing pricing for LU5Z-15K859-AAPTM at $260+ CAD PER SENSOR with no mount.... is that accurate?

LU5Z-15K859-AAPTM - Sensor - 2021-2023 Ford | Eastgate Ford Parts CA (eastgatefordpartscanada.ca)

RockAuto

Is it really a grand for 4 sensors?

eBay has sets of 4 "bronco/mavrick/f150" ones for 50 bucks including the mounts.

Set of 4 Parking Sensors NEW LU5Z-15K859-AAPTM for Ford Bronco F-150 2021 | eBay

Not sure if it's too expensive to be worth it on some sites or too good to be true on others...

Thanks!

There is no way I would pay that for those. When I ordered them in 2022, they were roughly 55 each.

I did find them on amazon for $20 each here: Magimaker Parking Sensor Compatible with Ford F-150 Bronco 2021 LU5Z-15K859 LU5Z15K859 LU5Z-15K859-AAPTM LU5Z15K859AAPTM https://a.co/d/6Pr0mR9

They don’t usually come with the retainer clips though as those are usually specific to the vehicle and orientation on the bumper.

Thanks, makes sense about the clips. I have those numbers and will get them from my regular parts place. They're $16 each.

Anyone painted theirs? I have red bumpers and my rear sensors are color matched (for the outside two) Wondering if I can just get touch-up paint from the dealer and put I thin layer on them.

Cheers!

I have a chrome bumper. I used the attached and it came out pretty good. Just be patient though. if I was to do it again, I would go light on each coat and give it a lot more time between coats. I ended up getting finger prints on mine when handling them as I didn’t wait long enough for them to cure.

Of course you’ll need to find the color that matches your truck though. The Ingot Silver matches the factory color of the tremor skid plate. That’s why I bought that color.
