GainesvilleWhere in Florida are you?
Your truck got 4.2.1 about a month ago. You are a little behind, but at least you're getting updates. No reason for concern as far as that goes.Good afternoon. When you have time, could I get a VIN lookup please and thanks.

So far they haven't done anything. You have 2 OTA's in your queue right now; one since 2/20. The one that is active is failing over and over due to low battery stats. Thanks for offering your time/resources for this!

FRDS updates
Dealer is currently in the process of keeping my truck for 3-days + weekend...I'll be interested to see what they've updated and what's missing and if nagging will help get the rest updated...
Thanks, again!
Your APIM is on the old broken 20301 software. Your truck does not have a Fordpass account so I can't see the mileage, so I assume it is out of warranty if they want to charge you to replace it. They could try to update before swapping it out though. I see no indication that they tried to reprogram it. When did you take it to the dealer?I'm also in a lurch with '21 - dealer said my APIM needs to be replaced for $1,300 as my Sync 4 won't update (but says it is updated). Will someone please check my VIN to help diagnose if replacing APIM is the solution - 1FTFW1E83MFB17491?
Lots of knowledgeable people on here and I appreciate the insights.
Ah. If you were in soflo, I would have taken care of you.Gainesville
Off basic but on powertrain.@swampfox is your truck off warranty? If so, would go the Mongoose route. That way you can keep your truck up to date. Save yourself $700 to $800 to start with. I have 20+ modules that can be updated with the Mongoose and FDRS. Don't give your stealership any money.
58k mileage. They had my vehicle from 2/20-23. Apologies for the ignorance of my understanding but based on these facts, what should I call and ask them to perform?Your truck got 4.2.1 about a month ago. CorrectYou mentioned that your dealership was going to charge you $1300 for swapping your APIM?
They can try this TSB.Off basic but on powertrain.

I can see mileage on your truck, oil life, tire pressures etc, but I still can't see DTC's. So it is talking to the cloud somewhat. Not sure why it isn't pulling DTC code history. The weather or traffic was not highlighted as on. Could not be unless I did the paid navigation since I’m past 3 year mark now. I had rewards so I activated it again for a year. Now I can turn them on and now I have traffic & weather back now. I know those weather and traffic are tied to cloud info. Maybe that activation got cloud history back alive not that it’s an issue just didn’t want nothing hurting future ota. 1FTFW1E85MFA29607
If you want the dealer to try and recover your APIM instead of replacing it, you’ll want to ask them to perform the module recovery procedure in TSB 22-2404 (attached). I would not be optimistic that they will do it correctly—most are incompetent and will likely end up having to replace the APIM anyway. Once the procedure is started, they have only a limited window to complete it before they get locked out.Off basic but on powertrain.

Agreed, but bringing an APIM out of the broken sync software is not a straight up guided routine in FDRS.The mongoose and a $50 license is a downright bargain.
Just doesn't feel that way until AFTER the pain & suffering at the hands of the dealership.
I'm just saying.![]()
And I sure as hell wouldn’t recommend the procedure to someone who already claims to be uncomfortable with tech. Most dealers can’t do it right.Agreed, but bringing an APIM out of the broken sync software is not a straight up guided routine in FDRS.
Yeah...think I'm thinking I'll just bite the bullet and have the new APIM installed. Don't trust myself or the dealer to do the work. And I sure as hell wouldn’t recommend the procedure to someone who already claims to be uncomfortable with tech. Most dealers can’t do it right.
If you do it, ask me to check your VIN again when they call you to tell you to pick it up so I can check to make sure they programmed it correctly.Yeah...think I'm thinking I'll just bite the bullet and have the new APIM installed. Don't trust myself or the dealer to do the work.
Will do, thanks. I appreciate everyone's energy around this.If you do it, ask me to check your VIN again when they call you to tell you to pick it up so I can check to make sure they programmed it correctly.
