Here's a screenshot of my Sync:

Rats!
I think that's the dreaded APIM purgatory version, which shows no version. And I think if you check the Update Scheduler, it's not functional?

Anyways, the most common way of fixing that is using FDRS and a Mongoose, and creating a USB drive with the necessary update files. If you are lucky, the update works as expected. If you aren't lucky, you simply drive around for up to a month with the USB drive left connected. Suddenly one day you notice the Sync screen notification that the update is successful!

At that point your truck is out of the 2021 OTA purgatory.

Of course you now have access to a Mongoose and FDRS, so there's no reason not to just update your truck all the way to current software on every module.

Yes sir.
First, upload a screenshot of the Sync version your truck is on. That will confirm whether or not your APIM is stuck in the infamous OTA purgatory that first caused the epidemic of replaced APIMs.

If you are NOT stuck at that version, it's highly likely that your truck can be caught up on all the module updates manually and straight forward.
(using a Mongoose and FDRS license)
What version constitutes OTA purgatory?

It's an OTA from 2021 that resulted in Sync not showing a version in "About Sync", just as the picture above showed.
The secondary evidence was the update scheduler being broken and not allowing saved settings.

Correct that Auto Updates cannot toggle on. Does this mean I need a new APIM or can I bypass/update via Mongoose? I’m not technically savvy with vehicles but can follow instructions.

I guess all the manufacturers have issues. Never had update issues with my GMC. But let’s not talk about losing the #4 cylinder 3 times due to faulty AFM lifters. 3rd time took the cam with it! Lol

I guess I’m not in purgatory then…just way behind lol. Just bought the mongoose cable tonight. Update time!

You don't really bypass, but yeah, with FDRS/Mongoose you will get your APIM sorted out one way or another.

And you have plenty of documentation and support here on the forum.
Be sure to pop into the FDRS thread, once you have the Mongoose and license, and ask away.

To avoid a $500 mongoose cable + license and at the risk of doing it incorrectly, I’m wondering if Ford dealers offer this service? I’ll assume not as that would’ve been offered. Wondering if anyone has had luck asking a dealer to perform this update in lieu of replacing an APIM?

Highly unlikely the dealer will do it. They will do what Ford tells them to do. Ford will not pay them just to do updates unless the truck has a problem. Many posts on this forum about that.

Edit: @rugedraw loans out a Mongoose. Message him to put you on his list or maybe someone near you can let you use there’s and even may help.

You mentioned that your dealership was going to charge you $1300 for swapping your APIM?

@swampfox is your truck off warranty? If so, would go the Mongoose route. That way you can keep your truck up to date. Save yourself $700 to $800 to start with. I have 20+ modules that can be updated with the Mongoose and FDRS. Don't give your stealership any money.

Hello
Last week I took my car to the dealer
They said we did all the updates
But the sync 4 is the last version you currently have

Could you please check if they update the TCU
1ftfw1e54mkd48218
They didn't do sh*t. You have a GWM update sitting in your queue for 5 days. GO start your truck as that is the only thing that will give it permission to install.

Hello! It looks like you’re the answer man! After many years of driving GMC’s, I’ve made the switch to the blue oval! I just purchased a 21 f150 king ranch and according to ford… no recalls have ever been completed so I’m wondering if any of the updates have been done. Could you please check it out for me? Thanks so very much! I’ve got a lot to learn! 1FTFW1E88MFA23896
Your truck has all the 4.x.x updates and the APIM update that comes after that. You are missing the 6.x.x updates and a few bug fix updates. Last OTA sent was in September of last year. Not terribly behind.

Rugedraw it's my understanding that something in the 4 x updates screwed up TCU settings on some trucks, this is why there not reporting to the cloud or getting updates. The cellular connectivity is broken. This is why Ford is pushing 23-PU1113-UNX-DC so hard right now, to get these trucks back online. Some of these guys will need to get there trucks connected to wifi in order to receive 23-PU1113-UNX-DC because Ford locked themselves out from sending ota's via. Cellular. Ford's only option is to send this wifi, to get them back online.
Once they get 23-PU1113-UNX-DC OTA'S will start to flow again.
If you were able to connect to Fordpass, then you are not affected by this issue.
