My truck has been at the Ford dealership for 70 days as of this post for various problems. The last major issue that they have been unable to solve is the auto leveling headlights not correctly leveling when it is cold out. When I remote start the truck, the headlights will will have one or both units pointed all the way down instead of adjusting them correctly after the built in dance they run through each time. Has anyone else had this problem? Ford has no idea what is going on. View attachment 98278

My headlights used to work perfectly fine after remote start. Get in and push button then they would do the little dance thing and away I go on my drive.

One of the updates this year has changed that behavior and now they remain fixed at whatever position they were in when I parked the truck.

I'm really confused because I don't recall any updates to the HCM. It must be something else that triggers the headlights to dance around.

Mine are still broken. They said it was fixed after they replaced the HCM and the drivers side headlight assembly but the very next day, the passenger headlight was still pointing at the dirt when I remote started the truck. As a bonus, the tech didn't even aim the replacement headlight so it is always pointed at the dirt.... still waiting for my service advisor and Ford rep to figure out the next step and get this problem fixed. The new drivers headlight no longer logs fault codes which is a bonus I guess.

You have posted about this issue many times and I had replied to one of those that mine were doing the normal startup routine when I was getting in after remote start. I'm trying to find when I said that and maybe I'll have an idea which update broke it.

Mine have always had this problem since new and it has not changed with software updates. The only thing that causes it to happen is remote starting the truck and the morning temperatures have to be under 60 degrees or so. It never happens all summer with our 80+ degree mornings. Starting the truck normally with the push button has better odds of the headlights aiming themselves correctly most times.

Dang, I was hoping to see a cause.

What I have not done is standing in front of truck remote starting to see if the lights are still dancing around when turned off.

This is what mine look like every morning now and require a restart to fix. The driver side was never aimed and always points too low now.

I have done that before and watched them both do the dance and then when the passenger side cams down to the lower extent, it calls it quits and never returns to the normal position.

I think I would just disable the dance and see if they auto adjust with a load on the back like they are supposed to.

it would take you 5min to fix that drivers side headlight. All you need is a long Phillips screwdriver to adjust it up.

It's driving me insane to not touch it and level it myself but this truck has an 80 day history of sitting in the service department getting this problem fixed and is just waiting for a service loaner to come available so it can go back in so they can continue figuring out the problem.

I have thought about doing that but want Ford to fix the problem since it is so odd. They have no history of a problem like this on the trucks and really are struggling to fix it for some reason.

I guess miracles happen but I wouldn’t hold my breath.
The headlights have a limited amount of travel / motion and if not set right from the begin, it will never be right.

I added these headlights to my truck and at first I didn’t have the HCM so I had to manually adjust the headlights.
Once I added the the HCM and its functionality my lights were all over the place. I manually adjusted the and been perfect ever since.

Adding “Glare Free” to these lights are by far the best thing ever. Effortlessly controlling the headlight on dark roads.

This is true. They have to be aimed correctly in the first place for the auto leveling to work correctly.
