Can you point the way to where I can read all about the many transmission failures?
You can't reason with a man on a mission sir.

I'm a Texas Aggie Sport, I'll only tow downhill.

10R80s fail in droves but it has nothing to do with the PB drivetrain. It’s a manufacturer/assembly defect where the CFD clutch drum shifts and ruins the transmission. Anyone here will be lucky to get more than 100k out of the 10R80 without that clutch drum shifting in its bore and blowing up the transmission. The 10R80s are failing like clockwork on the Expedition forum at 90-100k, and we are not talking about 1 or 2 transmissions. They are pretty much all failing around then. Do a search on the other F-150 forums for the 2017-2020 years. Many who cover a lot of miles are on their 3rd 10R80 transmission now. It will blow up if you keep it past 100k, anyone who tells you otherwise is in fantasy land. This transmission is not nearly as reliable as the 6R80 was.

We have 2 F150 10r80's past 100,000 miles in the family fleet, both 2018 3.5 Ecoboost.

One is towing their RV across country as I type, and was at 112,000 miles before they left Texas a week ago.
The other is at 135,000+ miles, but never tows.

Neither have had 10r80 issues.

I do agree that the 10r80 has QC issues on some percentage of them. I do not believe it is anywhere near the majority.
I've had 4 trucks personally with the 10r80. None have reached 100,000 miles while I owned them, so I can't claim that I wouldn't have suffered the CFD drum failure on any of them. Admittedly.

Have there been any improvements/changes other than software since 2018?
Is the GM version physically identical?
The part number has changed a few times since 2017. And the software has continuously been developed.
I don't think that every iteration has the CFD drum flaws, but it's certainly the most serious flaw that I have personally seen.
Ironically it's NOT the 3.5 Ecoboost motor itself that most influences me to add the co$t of the Ford ESP extended warranty to the cost of ownership. But rather it's the very expensive components like lighting and that 10r80. A couple of grand for the insurance policy isn't as painful as it once seemed in the past.

The GM version is not identical no, but it is based off of the ford licensed design.

Is the ESP available after vehicle purchase?

A typical zero rpm torque for an electric motor is on the order of 2 1/2 times its running torque. Thus the starting torque, whether towing or not, is far better than just the gas engine starting torque. What I have observed with mine is when you punch it, it goes like a rocketship. If the crossover from electric motor to gas engine power bands is well programmed, then it will be a rocketship as I've observed. So, generating capability aside, if you need good starting power pluc a little better MPG, the PowerBoost is your truck...

I perused the drain and fill procedures and they are specific, detailed, and consequential if performed improperly or haphazardly. Hmmm. ?

I thought the Subaru CVT was my worry lol. Wait just a minute. Do we actually have any reported hybrid 10r80 CDF Drum failures yet? Maybe they tweaked it while extending the housing to accept the traction motor?

There is no difference in the CFD clutch drum between any variants. It even is known to shift on the 10R140. I wouldn’t worry, as snakebitren said many don’t have problems and forums can be the vocal minority. Perhaps my wording was poor. Every 10R80 will not fail but I am not liking how many I am seeing from the 2018-2020 era that are racking up miles. I was reading some on this issue this morning and it got me a little frustrated at Ford. Buy an ESP if you are worried but even a new assembly is not cost prohibitive as you’d think. I just figure I’ll have to replace it down the road.

What will also help is change the fluid at 50k, the ULV I have seen online is jet black by 50-60k mikes. By 100k that fluid is totally smoked and most people don’t change it.
