Soon i am going to be having my transmission fluid/filter serviced at a mechanic shop NOT a stealership.
What are some REASONABLE quotes i should be hearing to have it done?
I figured i ask you fellas first because i do not want to go out and get shafted like a stupid b*tch lol.

Holy cow. Changing out the fluids already? You tow a lot, how many miles on the truck? May as well have them do the Transfer case too

My truck has approximately 25,000 - 27,000 miles currently. I tow around 3,000 pounds about 5 days per week since i brought the truck home. I would rather pay a decent premium to have the transmission fluid/filter serviced now rather than be frugal and pay the price down the road.

Don’t blame you. That’s a lot of miles in a short period. I have a 2022 as well and just hit 9000

Mine was $322 for a fluid exchange at the dealership @30k miles. For dropping the pan and swapping the filter I think they quote a couple hours of labor as well. I think that was quoted around $530, but I’ll do filter at 60k miles.

Keep in mind that even though the owners manual says 150k service interval, that is not the case for the severe duty cycle. They still recommend every 30k for those that tow/haul payload regularly, fleet, taxi etc.

I agree! It’s definitely worth doing, I noticed a huge difference in shift quality when I had mine done at 30k miles

There's another reason to do this. There is always manufacturing debris in a new unit. Ford has gone out of their way to achieve a high level of cleanliness in making these transmissions. But... In my opinion it is worth doing a changeout and filter change early on and regularly thereafter. Remember these have what amounts to brake linings to change the rotation of planetary gear sets. That put a small amount of deris in the oil regardless.

For those of you who have a PowerBoost, the transmission filter is a different one than on other models.

It is stupid to change the ATF more often than specified by the manufacturer. Ford recommends changing the ATF every 150,000 miles for their light trucks.

Even with my heavy duty diesel pickup with the Allison 1000 transmission the change interval was every 150,000 or 48 months with TES 295 ATF. The change interval was half as much if I used the TES 389 ATF from the truck dealer. I had to go to an Allison shop to get the good stuff.

If you really want to be paranoid then you should routinely change of the air in the tires as it might get stale. What few people seem to understand is that components, including seals and lubricants, are vastly better now than when your daddy had his truck.

In the 1970s a truck with 250,000 miles on the original engine was rare. Now it is common for engines to last for more than 300,000 miles with only a water pump replacement.

Many problems result from changing out the ATF and in particular with the shops that do an ATF flush (which should only be done for brake lines) and that damage the internal seals of the transmission.

Well my friend... Your words are stupid. I change out lubricants early for a specific reason: I want to remove as much manuracturing debris as possible. Having done that, a family truck went some 30 years and nearly 600,000 miles. Secondly, when I drained the front axle of my F50 the lubricant drained looked to be in poor condition. Thirdly, if you read these posts you'll find a number of people that found transmissions to be underfilled. So you're entitled to be self-righteous... But then those who only want to get to the next trade-in, that's a reasonable way to do business. For those who want to go longer than that, lubricant swapout is a good idea.

Changed mine at 35k, 2022. Oil was filthy, shop had done a few other 10r80s, same deal.

Was about $500 including filter and dropping the pan, and I had them install an aluminum deep tranny pan that was additional $300 - the 10r80s run kind of hot.

Aamco just did mine, drop pan filter and new synthetic with additive on 5.0 Mustang at $350. Cannot image F150 is much different.
