OP maxed out his rear axle and is over GVWR because of all the gear in the bed plus the tongue weight of the trailer which as of yet we do not know.
No, he maxed out his rear springs. The axle itself is 4800lb rating. The hitch has a 1400lb max tongue w/ WDH. The frame on the other hand is the strongest outside of the raptor's besting even the HDPP's. That's part of the PB's additional mass is its beast frame.

OK. I should have stated he went over his rear GAWR by 39lbs.

GAWR = Gross Axle Weight Rating.

Should be Gross Rear Leaf Spring Rating apparently...

Thing that amazes me about this thread, is the added weight of the powerboost sytem. His unloaded weight is about 5800lbs which is about 600lbs heavier than my loaded 5.0xlt......
Yep. It's bigger everywhere and faster too:cool:

Ford uses questionable tactics for their ratings. Take the short bed PB vs long bed powerboost. Same components up front yet the long bed gets a front axle bump of 150lbs going from 3900lbs to 4050lbs. The combined axle ratings of short PB is 8050lbs, the long bed 8200lbs.

Here's a little graphic I made up on my frankenframe post.... The PB's frame is .11" thick and has another ~30% more width to it in the center area.

My spidey sense says that's due to geometry and physics related to increasing the length between axles.

Check that.

I combed through your chart looking to prove my hypothesis without graph paper and instead came away questioning the meaning of it all as I stared into the arbitrary abyss of Ford's reasoning.

I am convinced that Ford (and others) deliberately and arbitrarily, to an extent, keep their various ratings within a range that FITS them right where they want them.

We still have to live with things like the yellow sticker, of course, but there's wiggle room in the actual physics. And like I mentioned earlier, I am far more concerned about balancing the weight across all axles than I am with being 39lbs under or over a rating.

I've towed enough over the last half a century to know what it feeeeels like to be sure footed, or when it's a bit queasy.
I love that planted feeling. Spoiled by it even. There's lots of different components contributing as an ensemble as you get past the ~3500-4000lb range. Especially with the frontal area of most RV's.

Thanks for all the back and forth!

Just for clarification, the listed trailer weight was both axles simultaneously on the scale, so like the full weight of the trailer. I would have been hard pressed to get one set of tires on the scale and then the others with them close together.

My marching orders for now seem to be:
  1. Move the scooters and canopy/gazebo from the bed to the trailer, nearer the back than the front, shifting approx 200lbs of cargo to the trailer. That should solve me being over GVWR.
  2. Set up my WDH according to instructions (that I currently can’t locate). It’s an RVPro 22-8201
  3. Weigh myself again when fully loaded and adjust the chains to ensure I’m more even between front and rear axles than my initial weigh in
  4. Anything I’m missing or misunderstanding?

I mean you can definitely do all that, but you dont "need" to do all that most likely. You aren't doing damage or risking anything by going a touch over the ratings. I really wouldn't worry too much about it. I personally kinda like the bike racks that go on the back of the trailers just for the ease of set up and aerodynamics.

I was on that site and just surprised that it or any of the other sites selling it don’t have a manual or guide for download haha.

Here's my concern -- Your front axle is weighing in at bone stock truck weight -- no options. My truck empty has more weight on its front axle than you do with ~1500lbs of additional mass. Given the rear tire is the fulcrum and you have bodies in the cab, you've got (spitballing here) damn near 1000lbs behind the rear axle. Something is out of balance on paper at least. You've driven it however. If it's a stable tow, then there's nothing really to change. It's worth investigating IMO. This conclusion is due to the low weight of the trailer axles. If you had ~8klb showing up on them it'd somewhat justify this first swing at the scales.
