I’m not a fan. He’s directing Ford down a path that’s not sustainable and also ultimately at the expense of tax payers.

EV division is losing billions, ICE vehicle prices continue to be inflated the lessen the blow by dismal EV earnings. The consumer is and will continue to pay the price.

It’s a train wreck.

He squarely failed. The parts deletes in 2023 are unacceptable. He is a timid leader, and so is Barra. Toyota and the others don’t have the current supply issues GM and Ford face because they never didn’t place orders for months at a time out of fear of not selling enough vehicles. A timid leader who quakes in his boots is not a real leader. Even worse, they are timid when it comes to hard decisions but slimy snakes who like to inflate prices and artificially raise demand/hurt consumer relations. It’s pretty lousy leadership. Both Barra and Farley need to go.

I find it incredibly refreshing when a CEO speaks candidly about their products and company like he does. Specifically I'm referencing when Jim Farley talks about software at 25:09. It's crazy the F150 has about 150 different modules from a multitude of different companies who all own their own IP so Ford can't go in a make changes to their code and on top of that none of those companies collaborate with each other. It's clear to see what a mess it is when trying to update these trucks and add new features because of the requests needed by each company to make changes to their module. The fact Ford is moving to an in-house approach when writing their own software is a much better thing for customers in the long run because it gives Ford a massive amount of control over the content they put in their vehicles.

Every CEO at every manufacturer was unable to prevent the impact of the worldwide pandemic.

I'm sure some did better, some did worse. But a CEO is one man. None appeared to have had a magic wand.
CEOs may not have a magic wand, but their position with its compensation also brings responsibility, justified or not. Name one major vehicle manufacturer that has handled their suppliers worse since 2020. The fact that Ford's stock price (the only thing that keeps a CEO employed) has stayed flat over the past year (just like GM) has kept Farley at the helm longer than I had hoped. Stellantis on the other had has had a 50% gain since then.

don't really remember much about the other ceo's but Farley seems to be an actual car guy. racing around in the race spec mustangs, etc. he's keeping manual transmissions, expanding the raptor lineup. has the bronco coming in and imo the sync 4 infotainment is one of the best on the market. could be much worse with a ceo that just looks at the stock market and looks at cuts versus building nice vehicles.
every manufacturer has deleted options because of constraints. every manufacturer has been making their products more expensive. and the lightning was the first pick up ev on the market. now that the competition is finally making it to production 2+ years later. yes they have a better product but learning from ford kinda gives an advantage.
do agree that people love to blame the ceo when they got rid of the gas cap or when theres some sort of issue with their car.

I have no opinion on "Farley" although I have developed a DEEP DISADAIN for Ford Motor Company and I guess the “buck stops” on his desk.

That said… Farley inherited a shit-show that got hit by a hurricane. I really don’t think that even had he known what was coming, he could have done anything about it.

And given the state of the supply chain of the entire (well, almost) Auto Industry, I don’t think that there is much he can really do about it now while trying to compete.

My only complaint with Ford (and I guess Farley) is Ford’s horrible, non-existent, “give us your money and now fuck-off” Customer Service.

They have (HAD) a loyal following but “loyalty” is a two-way street and they have failed miserably in fostering that built-in loyalty to turn it into repeat customers.

Since the 1st new Ford I purchased in 1998, EVERY new vehicle I have purchased in my life has been a Ford.

Now… If Ford was the only car company, I’d ride my bike to work before I’d ever buy another Ford product!

"Ford Loses Billions On Electric Cars, Embraces Hybrids"

https://www.dailywire.com/news/ford-loses-billions-on-electric-cars-embraces-hybrids

“You’re going to see a lot more hybrid systems from us,” CEO Jim Farley said Thursday after the company’s earnings report was released.

"Farley said Ford has been “surprised, frankly” at the popularity of the hybrid model for the F-150 pickup truck".

Wait......what? Where did all this come from all of a sudden? It's been all EV's all the time at Ford since the Lightning came out. Wow. Reality setting in?

More misguided Tesla chasing:

Ford expects to bleed $4.5 billion on electric cars this year, but it makes enough on everything else that it might not matter

Rumors of a surprise for F150 Hybrid for 2024.

Is it a second Hybrid variant?
Or is it Powerboost V2?

Maybe this hybrid will actually get better MPG than the ICE F-150 lineup (my 3.5 eco consistently gets 23mpg in town and as much as 25 on the interstate on an 86 mile round trip I do at least once a week)

GM's Mary Barra has been CEO for nearly 10 years and the stock is below her first days price. Farley has been doing a good job navigating the company through all the issues across the industry. I would just like to see him be a little more conservative with estimates. Under promise and over deliver. I suspect some haters may be stockholders that don't understand how the algos whip around retail investors. Reporting EVs separately gives ammo to bears or short sellers. That goes away once they become profitable, and likely not until 2025 or the next gen vehicles arrive. Meanwhile the other businesses are improving. Farley is not going anywhere.

I would expect a less powerful and less capable truck to get better mileage than my PB.

"once a week" makes for thin anecdotal evidence but 23mpg around town is excellent. I didn't realize the non PB 3.5 does that well in the city.

Yea, I have been Ecoboosting for a long time with several trucks, as well as a family fleet with 4 more.

The Powerboost has been 20-25% more efficient overall than my/our 3.5's. And even bests our 2.7's as well.

Towing is the equalizer, however. But when you get where you are going with the tiny house? Oh my! Boondocking heaven. :)

DETROIT, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Ford said Tuesday it has restarted assembly of its F-150 Lightning electric truck and is now driving to triple the production rate, setting up a multibillion-dollar test of whether mainstream U.S. truck buyers are ready to switch to an EV.

Tripling down on a product already downward-trending to "test" the market? This should be entertaining.
