Ummmmm wow!
Is this 4.2.3's doing?
That's a dead ringer for a browser natively imbedded in Sync4.
And it allows me to touch-navigate the routers web interface
Never seen that. I haven't gone through the menu's since I got the 4.2.x updates to see if there's anything new, tbh.

I just want to know if the gurus can come up with a hack for manual launching the browser. I had never seen a browser in Sync4 before and I was stunned when it auto-launched with the URL of my router and at the login prompt.
I logged in successfully.

Use some of your retirement money and get one of these:

Trying to find time to install the one I bought on my own truck.

Edit: Never mind......you can't use the touch screen with that to navigate.

You should already know that I like stuff that actually works. Lol
(even if it takes a bit of patience getting it dialed in)

And I pretty much prefer native Sync4 to Android Auto, as well. :)
I never thought that would be true with my previous Sync equipped vehicles.

Oh I think that device is amazing!
And it sets the bar for the things that I hope to be able to do, but without it. :)

Miracast natively would be the bomb.

I should have known better than to poke my nose into PTS this morning.

Within MINUTES afterwards, 4.2.3 triggered, and moments later installed. (no, I'm not suggesting ?)

I intended to only see if perhaps I really was blocking OTA by having Sync4 in diagnostic mode with the icons on display? Or if perhaps I just hadn't been queued at all.

I know that I can leave the displayed icons now. :) It has no ill affect and they add to the ability to monitor "connectivity" status.

That is awesome! How do you get it into diagnostics mode to bne able to see the icons? Are the icons selectable and display information about each? And once it's in that mode it stays like that until you take it out?

If you hold down the fast-forward buttons on the steering wheel and the centerstack simultaneously, the truck will enter a diagnostic mode on the Sync4 screen.

The icons are enabled in only one subsection of the list of various options. So you ONLY have to enable the single show-icons option.

Then you just exit out of diagnostic mode.

My truck has received two updates since it’s been at the body shop getting fixed from the hit and run.

After reading through this thread, I’m starting to hyperventilate from thinking about what I might be faced with when I pick it up next Friday.

Antho, good sir, let me describe to the best of my ability what circumstances triggered that totally unexpected web browser screen.......

I entered the truck and started as usual. I usually wait a few seconds for all icons to go green.

Ford F-150 New OTA Update 4.2.3 20230513_172345

The Wi-Fi will only go green if I am at home because that's the only Wi-Fi I have ever hooked the truck up to.

But in this case I noticed that it was taking longer than usual for it to go green, but unknown to me was that it being red did NOT mean that it hadn't connected to the ASUS router/access-point that is deployed in the RV, but rather it was actually connected but would NOT turn green unless the router was routing.

In other words, that particular diagnostic icon is only green if it can verify that it is routing out the WAN interface of the gateway it is connected to.

What was unique in this circumstance is the WAN interface was down when I launched the truck. I believe THAT is what triggered the web interface on Sync4 and loaded the login prompt.
Perhaps similar to what connecting to a hotel Wi-Fi and then your browser is directed to a portal site requiring a response.

Isn't this what 4.2.3 means by it enables the truck to "join public Wi-Fi"? Maybe what Ford meant to say (they really fail at communicating) was now Sync4 can connect to public Wi-Fi that requires a customer response and the Sync4 screen will now host the web browser response page?

Also I want to note that since the WAN wasn't routing, the two adjacent diagnostic icons stayed red too!
Since one or both of those icons represent cellular connectivity, I thought it odd that they were affected by the inability for the Wi-Fi (ethernet) interface to successful route.

Ford F-150 New OTA Update 4.2.3 20230513_085739

Which brings up a couple of questions that maybe you or someone could clarify?

What are each of the diagnostic icons REALLY representing?
What is ECG?
And although TCU module is green, it's obvious that the module will be considered functioning (green) even if it's not yet capable of cellular connectivity or cellular routing.

My theory is that if I did NOT have the trucks Wi-Fi interface set to automatically connect to the RV's SSID, I would have had all green icons, save the Wi-Fi icon.
But because I did have it configured that way, it connected to the SSID, but failed at its built in routing test and that triggered the Web browser rendering on Sync4. AND because the truck had not yet accepted defeat regarding the ability to route through Wi-Fi, it would not yet build it's routing tables for Sync4 and connected devices, thus it couldn't go green on cellular interfaces yet either.

Sorry for the novel.
Brevity is not my virtue. ?

@Snakebitten ok, that makes sense. The RV router must auto redirect to the setting page if it doesn’t have internet. I know someone messing with that exact scenario but with web links in the redirect.

So "that someone" is able to trigger web page rendering on the Sync4 screen?

You know, since it's now obvious that a browser is imbedded in Sync4, isn't it enticing to see if we could get some control over it?

I'm still sitting on 3.4.5....build date was May 2022. Maybe someday I will get updated.
