Found these when I was looking as well for the OEM location. I have also seen people put it more towards the center or between the two indents where that stupid "phone holder" thing goes. So it does not really matter. I'm probably going to try to center mine a little better since I don't have the wireless charger and the USB slots are already illuminated.

Another XLT push to start done thanks to John!!! I did NOT have the connectors, so it was a bit extra work. Allow yourself 3 hours or so taking your time to install and do the ForScan changes. Adding the 2 connections to the BCM and a ground isn’t too bad, it’s just an awkward location. Cutting the media bin also is fairly easy, cuts with a knife. Plan to do rear footwells, but ran out of time.

I took as many videos as I could but it was hard to do things with only one hand.
That and I worked a 10 hour day before hand so I was exhausted. Once I get sorted through the vids I should be able to post a video(s). If you need something before then, let me know I can try to quickly edit one of the sections of video for what you’re looking for.

the BCM connectors have a little tab to press in to be able to move the latch. Once you move the latch, keep rotating it until the whole connector pops out. Then you can just pull it out towards the center console. Replacing it, when you push the connector in it’s socket, the latch will automatically close about 1/3 of the way. This is how you know it is seated correctly, you can push the latch back to it’s locked position (when it clicks/locks into place with that tab you pressed earlier to remove it).

the gray connector for the non connector guys, it slides out of the blue holder from the side (I slid both the black and gray out for more room). There’s a blue tab on the end it slide out from that you have to press towards the blue housing to release them. On the long sides of the gray connector towards both ends you will see numbers. Look for 39 on the right (very end pin on that side). You will install the white wire into 38 right beside it.

The red wire for non-connector and connector peeps, remove the front red retainer or whatever it is BEFORE installing the pin. It just clips on both sides of the connector. pin 4 is bottom left 4 from the end (with the white latch on the left side looking at it). The connector diagram John posted at the beginning of this thread is upside down on how you will likely be viewing the connector (white latch on left).

now for the Forscan changes, HUGE shoutout to @Jesse-Infotainment for the changes I was missing. I worked with @ralphtejada he installed the wire from c2280c to c212 and installed my cup holder harness. we made all the forscan changes, and now his truck has ambient footwell and cup holder lights. if you do this you have to make these changes in order to get the ambient lights to turn on.

726-65-01 xxx1-xxxx-xxxx
726-49-01 01xx-xxxx-xxxx
726-45-01 xxxx-xx03-xxxx
7D0-01-02 xxxx-x0xx-x0xx (these need to be adjusted to whatever your vehicle has option wise) on the XLT I just helped with he went from xxxx-x2xx-x1xxx to xxxx-x6xx-xxxx(only 1 change was needed here)
7D0-01-03 0xxx-xxxx-xxxx(again adjust to vehicle options) his was a 5 so we left it as a 5

you can look all these up in @Livnitup spreadsheet to see what you should set them as.
There is an option in FORscan to enable ambient lighting. Does that take care of this or do you actually have to set all these manually?

thanks!

I noticed that as well. Since we are changing things in BCM and APIM, probably not.

I believe it is always best to set things manually.

you have to do all of them. if you only do the apim one, the menu will show up but you wont be able to turn the lights on.

Add another. Took way too long but finally. I also snapped off two of the console bolts, the rear and middle on the passenger side. I used a 1/4” ratchet and went real slow, still snapped off.

So, if anyone needs to know, the harness you can get plugs into the passenger side wheel well light plug.
I also found that I have the glove box light already. That was a nice surprise. I am going to buy the wheel well lights later on and have decided that I wouldn’t like the light in the console; seems overkill to me.

So PTS with connectors here.

No console (jump seat) so just want to do the front floor lamps. Do I need the harness? Or which wire do I need to order to go with the 2 lamps?

Hi, all. Another successful installation here. Thanks to @JHForman812 for the awesome harness and support. Also thanks to @Texas2022XLT, @Puffy929 and @b bo for helpful posts. I'll try to add some value here as well.

My 2022 XLT did not have connectors (except for the passenger-side rear footwell -- go figure).

Overall this was a fun weekend project. It definitely took longer than anticipated. Some of that was just me getting familiar with my new truck and learning how to use Forscan. I started yesterday afternoon, pulling trim and using the "slide the console back" method. I connected the "large console light" harness which feeds the media bin and glove box and ran the glove box wire. I installed the glove box lamp and it lit up -- awesome. I removed the media bin and with a deep breath cut into it using a utility knife. Prior to installing the glove box lamp, I used the suggestion of @JHForman812 of putting some tape over the glove box hole and shading it with a pencil to get the outline of the hole as a template to cut. This worked pretty well and with only minor corrections I had a decent hole and the media lamp installed and working. One harness down!

At this point I moved on to the wiring of C2280C. It was late and I struggled a bit with this. Between uncomfortably tight quarters and not being able to get the red wire inserted into C2280C without forcing things, I just went to bed. Turns out sleep is a cure for making mistakes since this morning it inserted smoothly with no issue . On to C2280E... this was was a PITA until I realized the adhesive tape connecting the wires to the actual connector was the issue. I cut that and the rest went smoothly.

At this point I finished running the other 2 harnesses to the cup holder and various footwells and installed the lamps -- this was all pretty straightforward.

Now for Forscan. I'm a Mac guy and figured I'd use Parallels to run Forscan on my (relatively new) Macbook Air. No such luck as Forscan doesn't support ARM based systems -- period. So I grabbed the wife's old x86-based Mac and tried again -- that worked. I setup the initial values and hit "Write All" and... it died at 34%. Not having used Forscan previously at this point I said a few choice words and praying I didn't brick the truck, tried again and... it worked! Programming the other values completed without issue and I was able to go to Settings -> Vehicle Settings and see an Ambient Lighting item. Voila!

I wire tied everything up cleanly, replaced the trim and had a glass of bourbon.

Some posts I found useful during this mod (putting these all in one place):

Media Bin Clips
Someone on this thread or another had mentioned not being sure how to remove the media bin. Aside from the 2 7mm bolts that are obvious, there are 2 clips that need to be removed:

Rear seat lamps
It took me a while to find where the rear seat lamps should be installed, so here's a picture. Also note the connector just sitting on the floor and not attached to the seat frame. This was the only ambient light connector installed in my XLT. Weird.

C2280C
This is a picture of C2280C removed from its socket with its red faceplate removed as well as the top of the connector. Not the best angle, but I've tried to note Pin 4 which is where the red wire should be inserted. The orientation of the red wire when inserting should be that the "barb" on the connector should face down (when looking at the front with pin 1 on the bottom left).

When replacing the top, make sure the tab at the back of the top is seated properly:

When you're done the red wire pokes out the side:

C2280E
The process for removing this is documented well in @b bo's install post, but the gotcha for me was that I didn't realize the adhesive tape was keeping the inserts from sliding out easily. I cut the tape away and the rest was pretty easy. I agree with @b bo that removing both the gray and black inserts is easier than trying to just do the gray. I used a small flathead screwdriver bit to push the tab needed to release the inserts.

Incredible write up!! Is there anything I can improve on the harness side that would make it better? I don’t have an F150 so most of the measurements I use are guesses from my super duty.

Overall it worked well for me. It’s really well made!

If anything, I’d have liked maybe 6-8” more length on the driver’s footwell leg of the harness to aid routing. Everything else seemed great length-wise.

Also a wire tie with an attached Christmas tree (or similar) to fit into the metal plates for the drivers side and both rear footwells. I just wire tied the cable to the hole itself which is fine — just a pain to remove if ever needed. Given this would add to the cost it might not be reasonable.

I’ll see if I can track down the Christmas trees for these!
