Start/Stop Timing & Battery

I've recently noticed when I stop and the auto start/stop engages it doesn't seem to last as long as it did when I first got the truck. It cuts off fine but seems to start up about 20-30 seconds later. I'm wondering if that's the first sign of a battery drain issue, if it's learning my habits, or if I'm making it all up in my head because of known issues. I'm scheduling to take it in for the reflash and will have them check it out but has anyone else experience this?

I haven’t experienced that, but I know my battery is low when the auto start/stop isn’t working when it should. I can confirm that when I see the “vehicle charging” message on the instrument cluster.

Then your battery is probably in good shape I would guess.
When my auto start/stop is working it seems to work as it should. It cuts off quickly and when I let pressure off the brake, it immediately fires the engine.

I just figured for the most part the engine would remain off until I release the brake. Kind defeats the point of auto start stop if it's only off for 20 seconds.

Yeah it should remain off until you release pressure off the brake. If yours is starting back up with pressure still applied to the brake I’d say something might be up. I know a lot of factors are involved for the system to work, but starting back up like that seems odd to me.

Actually I did discover that there is a threshold of break pressure that won't enable the auto stop/start. If I'm approaching a red light, I apply the smallest amount of braking to stop me and hold me at the light. If I'm lucky, it doesn't shut off. I'm getting very tired of disabling it on every drive so I've been trying to beat the system. I can't wait until they find the forscan setting to disable it.

Yeah I know the threshold you're taking about but I've tested that and I've been using the auto hold alot as well. Still starts up again with firm pressure on the peddle.

I learned that same technique on my former ‘18. You can really learn to dial in just the right amount of pressure from your right foot to defeat the system. ??

A lot of user have reported that the truck does “learn” your driving habits and adjust certain things accordingly. I’ve read it will adjust the fuel tank’s digital “miles to empty” reading based off of how you drive it.

I believe this has been done for 2021. I haven't tried it yet.

Update* I've schedule the recall service but found that my zone lighting was accidentally turned on. Not activated but simply powered on. I turned it off and the battery seems to have gotten its full charge back and all is acting normal. Ford was right about that as a cause for phantom battery drain. Turn it off when not in use until they get that over the air update!

When start stop is activated the truck will start back up to cycle the air or heat if the ambient temperature of the interior warms or cools compared to your temp settings.

I recently noticed mine doing similar - it would turn off engine then almost immediately restart - seems to be linked to having heated seats turned on and early in my drive - not sure if this is normal behavior or an issue? I have not noticed this behavior now that it has warmed and I am not using the heated seat function
