Hi All - my 23 PB has shipped and will arrive soon. I will be using this truck to tow my 7K TT across various places around the US.

My question is the following: if I have a Ford ESP (assuming premium care with rental coverage), what happens if you break down in the middle of nowhere towing your TT? Does FORD tow you to the nearest dealer? What happens to the TT?

I have never purchased an ESP before ( nor have I ever needed one), but with all the tech in a new PB, or any F-150 for that matter, I am planning on it.

The ESP is for the truck, with the ESP there are add-on options, like first day rental/loaner vehicle, etc. But has nothing to do with a trailer. For road coverage for your trailer (including options for tow) you need a separate plan for your trailer from either your insurance company or if you want to purchase an Extended Warranty for your trailer. But Ford (nor your truck insurance) will cover anything about your trailer.

i understand that, but does the ESP cover towing? I have a separate TT towing plan, but there are limitations (I.e. closest repair facility, etc.).Then, my TT will need to be stored at Ford while the repair is to be completed. I did not have this issue with my Sequoia (as it never broke and has been out of warranty for 11 years), but this vehicle is a lot more complicated.
I guess I will have to call Ford, but not sure I will get a straight answer from them either.

Sorry either I wasn't clear or I didn't understand your question.

Ford for Warranty (including extended Warranty) covers Roadside Assistance including towing to nearest Ford Service center if needed.... FOR the VEHICLE. Covers nothing for a trailer. You either leave the trailer on the side of the road, or you have a separate policy to cover towing your trailer (not from Ford).

Got it. Leaving a $50K trailer on the side of the road is not an option. I Guess I will Have to call my RV towing insurance company. However, I was hoping that someone has experienced this issue and could relate some real world experience.
I think I will change the title of the thread to make it more clear what I am looking for. Thanks.

Excellent question. I’m glad you asked. Was wondering the same thing. I have AAA Rv platinum or whatever the hell they call it. I have found out that AAA has changed their towing policy for rvs. Instead of towing for upto 200 miles (on one tow) it’s now capped at a flat $500. These days $500 is not going to get you far at all tow wise. Just a word to the wise. ?

I have AAA also. But those are for my vehicles. I have a separate RV tow policy, but I don’t recall who it’s with. I’ve never needed to use it. But as I begin to venture further out across the US with a new vehicle under warranty, I need to understand the implications and if I have the correct insurance, in case the unfortunate happens.

get an add on plan with coach net or the like
we have had coach net since 2006 superior service is the word and towable plans are really affordable. they also will work with ford on towing to get you and your rig to a safe place
one summer we blew tires at every trip on the trailer, they never balked or hesitated to send a person out to change the tires. summer extreme heat and road debris caused us to over 5 months replace every tire on trailer 2 times

Man, that is a tough one. The contract does provide for towing as part of the included roadside assistance. I expect that would generally include connected trailers. My guess is that Ford Protect would cover the costs of any tow that can be performed with the use of a standard tow truck at standard rates. If a medium duty or heavy duty tow is needed, I suspect that you would likely cover the difference in the cost. Not sure of that at all, but it seems like a likely outcome to me.

thats something you need to really look at

when my 2010 F150 died at a gas station, i called coach net as i had 40k something miles on truck
coachnet called ford as the powertrain stuff was still active, Ford sent ugly scary flat bed , and coach net sent a nice new tow truck to drag the hauler trailer back to our campground about 40 miles away and dropped it at our bus.
the tow driver even called us and sent a pic of the trailer at our campground spot.
Ford carried us opposite direction about 50 miles to nearest dealer , where coachnet had already arranged for us to have a rental . MIND you dealer had been closed for nearly 1/2 hour before tow truck got us to the dealer, coachnet and dealer had a person waiting on us.
WOW that never happens. i figured we would get dropped off and be footing it .

we picked up rental and went back to campground some 90 or miles away.
2 days later our truck was fixed, so we went back to pick it up
Ford did not charge us for the rental and coachnet picked up my deductible, not sure why , but it was greatly appreciated
so it only cost us fuel for rental.
our coachnet advisor worked behind scenes to get 2 two trucks, going different directions and worked with ford on warranty repair under powertrain.
fix was some stupid emissions valve on carbon canister, so i assume that's why no deductible was applied ???? at least that was what was on the repair ticket, this was back in 2013

we normally would have left trailer at campground, but we needed it for a shopping excursion that day ? ?

bottom line we have used coachnet since 06 then upgraded in 09 when we got the bus, they have never failed to please. even when we were REMOTE as you know what, took wrecker over an hour to get to us, because nearest town was hr away. poor guy changed out a tire in 100 degree heat, on a busy 2 lane,
he had right tools to lift up the hauler trailer with my truck and gear loaded on trailer, changed tire, cleaned up fender mangle and we were off on our way. zero out of pocket.

and every time we have used coachnet roadside...the operator calls us every 30 minutes to make sure we are being taken care of and they continue to call until your back on the move again.
followed by a call a few hours later to make sure your safe and sound.

i will never use anyone elses roadside service for our bus or rv or hauler trailer.

Isn't it like something $175-200 just to roll the truck out now?

I am not sure, but probably not far off. I have used AAA very successfully for my kids in college and their friends when traveling together. The TT is a completely new beast.

I have to check if AAA changed anything when I renewed in August.
